Great park for all ages and some short or long rides available. We were the only people there on a lovely sunny Saturday afternoon.
I had work up this way so decided to bring the bike after hearing about this new bike park. Couldn't fit the new bike on the roof rack, so the old one had to do.nSpent a couple of hours here and knocked of all the trails a couple of times. I've never ridden on sticky mud before like this, so with the correct pressure adjustment to the High Rollers, I found plenty of grip and had an absolute blast!nFull credit to those creating this park, you've done a great job.nI think I will bring my bike up this way again and explore further.
An inspiring park. Some honest, tight and techy XC trails, plenty of jump tracks, an epic pump track and some cool skills loops for the kids.
The Medlock Trail starting at the western end of the bike park and enters the Kauri Block. Spectacular views. The route is well signposted.
This place has been on my radar ever since moving from akl to Whangamatā. For context, I’m a grade 4-5 intermediate rider. The bike park has two grade 3 xc trails which could of been so much more. The trail build is the major let down, with lots of nice features including natural step downs, hips, doubles and even triples that are mostly placed on sections of the trail where they are impossible to hit. Some sections due to major exposure/sketchiness to pull up with confidence, but the majority because the trail speed doesn’t allow it. I struggled to find much flow on the trail despite finding a few nice doubles towards the bottom. The trail also seemed to transition from descending to climbing in a split second, with no feel or trail intuition giving you an idea that you should slow down or speed up. I met a couple of guys in their 40’s or 50’s riding xc bikes who rode one trail and left. We had a chat and they had similar options to me, one guy in clips saying that the switch back climbs which I actually found to be fun were too tight and he had trouble unclipping which meant he lacked confidence even on the climbing sections. As for the jump lines, there’s a grade 3 and a grade 4. They weren’t bad, seemed lioe the berms and consecutive tables were too ‘cramped’ to find flow once again but the wind was blowing which definitely effected speed and feel in the air. Overall disappointed and won’t be back. If you want to ride in the coromandel, just go to Whangamatā
