Story

Richard Pearse Airport, also known as Timaru Airport, is located off the Pleasant Point HWY, 4 km north of the suburb Washdyke in Timaru, New Zealand.HistoryThe airport takes its name from the local pioneer aviator, Richard Pearse, who allegedly flew before the Wright Brothers. The airport is a small regional airport with one gate, one asphalt runway, and two grass runways. The South Canterbury Aero Club is based at the airport and frequently use the airport for training and recreational purposes. There are regular Air New Zealand Link flights to Wellington using Bombardier Q300 aircraft, formerly flights were operated to Oamaru and Christchurch. Timaru, along with Invercargill to its south, are the only two major centres without a direct air service to Auckland. Eagle Airways used to operate from Timaru to Wellington with Beechcraft 1900D aircraft.UpgradeA $1.3 million dollar upgrade was approved in November 2015 by the Timaru District Council. The upgrade would increase the current terminal space from 450 square meters to cover almost 600 square meters and would include a new luggage collection area. The upgrade was in response to the increase in capacity on Air New Zealand Link flights to Wellington using the higher capacity Bombardier Q300.

What a beautiful little airport, so sweet! Every person is so kind! Very enjoyable!
Don't let the mermaids get out. Your border security better be good enough to detect them. WE HAVE TO KEEP THEM CONTAINED.
Absolutely absurd parking fees. For a small town we ought to be paying no more than 4 dollars a day. Yet apparently its jumped to 10 dollars a day parking! Total rip off particularly when Auckland parking you can pay 6 dollars a day!
As a minor airport the terminal has received a much needed upgrade and is now a better experience for the public, and, I suspect, the employees. Comfortable seating, complimentary hot drinks, clean toilets - a much better experience. Now that we have lower airfares to the provinces this place will get more patronage.
Car park is too small so people have to park on yellow lines or the grass. I liked the mural on the window telling the names of the mountains. Rest rooms were clean and tidy. Plenty of chairs but some don't have backs. Simple bag retrieval on the way down and easy check in for the return flight.
Clean and tidy airport. Couldn't be easier to navigate since there is only one terminal and it's not much bigger than my modestly sized house. Long term parking is paid but it's only about $20 for a long weekend.
Very small regional airport. Well appointed. Machine coffee and vending machine drinks, plenty of seats and a few tables if you need to get some laptop work done while waiting for a plane.
Clean, tidy but fairly basic airport lounge. Only has a machine for dispensing coffee.
Parking payment would not print receipt. Barrier arm would not lift to let dozens of cars out. No one would answer the help button. Thankfully some guys forced it or we would still be there in the pouring rain. Not good enough
Adequate amenities. Really helpful staff
