A Perfectly Executed Schnitzel at The Rat Hole RestaurantnnDuring my recent visit to The Rat Hole Restaurant, I had the pleasure of enjoying what can only be described as a masterfully executed schnitzel—an iconic dish elevated to extraordinary heights by the talented hands of Chefs Rachel and Tessa.nnThe schnitzel arrived flawlessly crisped, with a golden-brown crust that was light yet satisfyingly crunchy. Beneath the delicate exterior, the meat was exceptionally tender and flavorful, a clear indication of careful preparation and expert technique.nnWhat made the experience truly memorable was the precision and confidence with which this seemingly simple dish was delivered. In the hands of lesser chefs, schnitzel can feel ordinary—but in the care of Rachel and Tessa, it became a statement of skill, restraint, and respect for classical technique.nnThe Rat Hole Restaurant may be modest in name, but its execution of this timeless European classic was nothing short of exceptional. I would return for this dish alone.
I got food poisoning from this place with little wonder when the staff were using a grotty cloth to wipe the food service area.nThe meal was not cooked well & using old products by the look of it - and smells coming out of the kitchen like rot.nThe staff were not friendly nor helpful & considering the was a veg/salad bar that was only accessible once seems very rude & a rip off considering were we not told before hand & the dinner plates were so small we could not get a proper selection hence thought going back was an answer to this.nWill never go back again I have never been so sick in all my life.
Standard pub food, and staff was accomodating. Steak was nice and tender. Although the size has shrinked over the years, but all the meal sizes are still pretty decent for the price. Beware, the shrimp cocktail comes with half plate full of thousand island sauce.
Must visit highly recommended. Restaurant well appointed, great ambience, service and selection of meals and refreshments. Meals are generous, great value and something for everyone's palette. I'll be back next time I'm bac in New Zealand.
I was just passing through this cool town and stop in here for a quick drink with my old man, it’s really old fashion bar the way pubs should be, we don’t have any bars like this in Wellington, this pub have all the beer that every day kiwis want, they also have good selection of whiskey, the bar person was really friendly as well,
