Really good skiing place and very friendly staff and good cafe
Didnt get up close unfortunately due to weather but was magnificent from the distance.
Amazing beautiful place. Although there wasn’t as much snow as I had expected I had a fun time.
My group 3 people were blessed with great weather yesterday. We did to the summit crater lake. Sone steepy ice tracks so that we have to wear the micro crampons, and axe to get steady steps.
Excellent place in North Island to see snow. I like the cable car which gives aerial view of the whole ski. I visited there twice once in winter July and then same year in October both has it's own flavors but knowing that I was with infant, I enjoyed in October most.
The drive to Mt Ruapehu was absolutely stunning with beautiful scenery to admire I was in ore of how gorgeous my drive up to Mt Ruapehu was. Such an amazing tourist attraction sight that brings in tourists from all over the globe it's still better to go during winter season as the mountains are fully covered in snow right to the ends of the road. However, I was not prepared that being my first time driving there. But as you can probably imagine through my piks it was a beautiful day but still very cold and windy once we arrived at the top, although it was finally the end of winter and now in the 1st or 2nd week of spring the snowy mountain had already started melting away. I fully understood why my friends in Australia had visited here every year just to go skiing and snowboarding!! Cause it was absolutely beautiful and breath taking. I loved the drive and the views that much I'm looking forward to going back with my family next year. By then I'll be well prepared.
Worth making the trip. Parking can be hit and miss and be prepared to walk as you might have to park lower down. Recommend happy valley for the kids. The 1 hour sledding was long enough for the younger kids and fun for the adults too. The gondola trip was fun as well. Pre booking is recommended. Be warned, it is busy during the weekend and I found the week a little bit easier to see and do things and it is cheaper. Dress warm and be prepared to have fun and get wet. Checkout the mtruapehu website for details around weather and access to the site on the day, as you might need a 4x4 or wheel chains to get up, otherwise book your trip up to the mountain with a shuttle service and not be disappointed.
So i did attempt to summit but unfortunately there was too much ice for an inexperienced hiker like me sadly. I did get a fair ways up though and it was very beautiful up there too. Be careful up here, some people were climbing and sliding all over to get up to the summit. Amazing place though.
Stunning views over the horizon. Perfect location for skiing . Kids can enjoy some skiing at the happy valley. It's very beautiful up there. Don't forget to enjoy the sunset There are cabins that you can book to spend a night up there. Had a great time with family Don't miss the cable car ride up the mountain Make sure you gear up. It can get very cold Best time to visit if you want to do some skiing is during the peak of winter between June and August. Otherwise if you going up their for the views family enjoyment I recommend early spring.
The access road is only for off-road vehicles and our car got a little scratch. Its a risk to go there now because the crater lake temperature has rised
