When we arrived we asked the owner for few extra towells as we wanted to use the hot pools. We were told, in a rather gruff tone, that there weren't any more avaialble until the cleaner arrived the next morning at 10:00am. When we arrived in Room 2, the first thing we noticed were the heaps of insects about plus some crawling around on the carpet, of which only the bedroom had. This is an indication that the building isn't sealed properly, for that many bugs to be able to be inside at any given time. Another thing we immedaitely noticed is that there appeared to be absolutely no insulation of any kind between the walls and under the cold, wooden floors, it's 2025 not 1965. There was very noticeable amounts of noise transfer between units people talking, laughing and dragging around chairs along the cold wooden floors etc. There was no electric blanket on the spare bed in the living area, it gets cold at night in the central plateau of the North Island. The outdated TV didn't even have a built in Chromecast, so it's just as well we took our own! On the positive side, the thermal heating and hot pools were great, although the night lighting in the hot pools was inadequate, so we were only able to use the one hot pool at night that had enough lighting in it. The motel is not within walking distance of the Turangi shops, so be sure to take all of your own supplies. We won't be staying there again.
2nd stay at this motelnFeel it is definitely overpriced at $200 for 2 bedroomed units in comparison to other motels we stayed in on our travels. Dated units, however, they have been slightly renovated. Insect screens on the windows would be a great addition to allow windows to be left open at night for fresh air.nnCould smell cooking smells in unit curry .. perhaps add a sign to Units requesting no seafood or odorous meals be cooked in units as a lot of motels now have these signs.nnBeds need updating to larger size and more comfortable mattressesnnThe HUGE positive which saw us return are the hot spring pools. Great having 24 hour access.
Really friendly staff and helpful, but the place was not good or maybe we got unlucky with room 2. At night, all the bugs came in, and in the morning, they were all gone even though we had closed all the windows and doors - meaning that the hotel is not sealed properly, and the bugs are finding their way in / out. It was a super uncomfortable night with that. Everything else was fine: wifi was fast, bathroom was functional and had good pressure. When we arrived to check in, nobody was there his car broke down, and another customer called him to check us in. If they weren't there, we wouldn't have known what to do because we don't have a NZ phone number. Kitchen was stocked just fine, not many pans to pick from.nnIn the end, nothing really mattered except for the bugs. If you can live with a LOT of different bugs, then go for it, but if not, stay away. Yikes.
I enjoyed the whole experience, clean and comfy rooms and the hot pools are awesome.nThe owner is friendly and welcoming, I definitely would recommend staying here .
Overall we really enjoyed our stay here. Super affordable and we got a couple of soaks in the private thermal baths even tho we only stayed one night. That was definitely our highlight!!nnMaster bed has an electric blanket, but the spare single bed didn't, so definitely take a hot water bottle in winter for that bed... and you may want your robe and slippers because it's a little chilly. Personally I think it would be better to stay without kids as the spare bed is in the lounge.nnOther than that it's fresh and modern inside, beds are very comfy, it's super quiet and private, had some nice views, and is in a great location for trips to the Mountain. Once the thermal poola have been given a refresh, this place will be hard to beat. Thanks for hosting us, we'll be back
