Story

R. F. Joyce Observatory is the home observatory of the Canterbury Astronomical Society and is situated near West Melton, Christchurch, New Zealand.
The observatory is the result of the bequest of R. F. Joyce, a founding member and former President of the CAS.
The primary instruments in use are a 14.5\" Cassegrain telescope, a 12\" Schmidt-Cassegrain, a 16\" folded Newtonian and a 5\" refractor.

Went for Kidsfest so much busier than usual Friday nights. Great fun and got some viewing in before the clouds started to take over! So cool seeing constellations from millions of light years away and the likes of Saturn and Venus with her 4 moons. Members are wonderful, friendly and knowledgeable!

Had a great time with my kids for Kidsfest, really informative.
Good to see the night sky without light pollution from the city. Did not meet my expectations. But maybe my expectations were too high. Best to go at a time when there are less people. Not an open night.
Enjoyed a fantastic open evening and blessed with amazing views with such wide variety of telescopes and wonderfully informative and helpful volunteers to guide newcomers like me. If we weren't flying back to Ireland soon I'd love to join the society.
