About

Independent Presbyterian Girls' School

Story

Located in Thorndon since its foundation in 1919 as an independent girls’ school, Queen Margaret College provides continuity in education from Pre-School to Year 13. An international perspective is fostered through a high-quality global curriculum and language- centred exchange opportunities. The College is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School authorised to teach the IB Diploma and IB Primary Years’ Programme. It is a Candidate school for the IB Middle Years’ Programme.

We are proud to also be a laptop school, which has seen all Years 6, 7 and 8 girls begin the year with personal laptops. All subjects are taught by specialist teachers in the Middle School (Years 7 to 10).

There is a wide range of sports on offer, catering for all individuals and abilities, a strong performing and visual arts programme and an extensive EOTC programme to foster resilience.

My daughter goes here and seems completely happy and not pressured at all, she finds it is a fun and caring environment and the school is its strong emphasis on academic achievement, sport and other areas. You are indeed lucky if you get the chance to be educated here!!
hated this place. was bullied for 2 years straight, got so bad had to move schools. unless ur rich, then put ur kid here. but if ur not, then dont. coz these girls love hurting other people who aren't like them. and the studies was good. After six years, the pain is still there.
I have 3 daughters at Queen Margaret College and have been part of the school for a number of years. It is an exceptional school where staff are highly qualified and dedicated to getting the best out of the students. The school places a strong emphasis on wellbeing and not purely on academic achievement. The school recognises the importance of nurturing well-rounded individuals, and therefore offers a wide range of co-curricular activities. Whether it's participating in sports, music, arts, or community service, there is something for every student to explore. For me the great thing about QMC is that it's not a cookie cutter school. There is a recognition that girls may need support in learning or mental health. For example learning support is offered for those who may need additional assistance academically and psychologists are on-site for those who need support with their wellbeing. As well, you don't have to be a top sports person as social teams are also offered for those keen to have fun with friends. QMC has a real commitment to the holistic development of the girls and I have always felt the staff were accessible and very open to finding solutions to any issues that arise.
I am 3rd generation Samuel Marsden Collegiate in Karori so one would have expected us to be at Marsden, but I have my daughter at Queen Margaret College, and it was the best decision! She loves it. QMC is outstanding! Quality education and amazing staff. Green turns to blue!
My friend got bullied and they have bad teaching and no one got academic achievements and no sport.
if you have friends it's fine
