Our tranquil 5 hectare property is nestled in the lower Kaimai ranges just minutes away from Katikati.
You have a choice of accommodation:
The self-contained farmstyle guest house is on 2 levels, having 4 double bedrooms (with ensuite bathrooms), shared lounge and kitchenette.
The purpose-built bunkhouse has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. Each bedroom can sleep up to 4 people.
There is a TV lounge with pool table and kitchen in a separate block for self-catering.
Woodfired pizza oven and BBQ available.
Explore our avocado orchard and landscaped gardens. Relax under the shade of the tall trees.
Visit the beautiful mountain ranges or take a refreshing swim in one of the unspoiled streams or waterholes.

A lovely country lodge nestling in beautiful green natural surroundings. The owners Andrea and Rupert are welcoming, friendly and helpful. Freshly laid eggs from the family of free-range chickens that roam the gardens, beautiful walks through avocado trees and along the river, the hotel is clean, cosy and homely. Highly recommendable, we'll definitely be back!
Lovely little spot, very quiet. Super friendly owners. Great, clean facilities, enjoyed the large communal space. Nice large bunk rooms. Pizzas in the pizza oven would definitely have to be the highlight. Highly recommend, would definitely come back here again.Rooms: 5/5
Amazing place to stay. Even though I only stayed there for a week, it was very memorable to me. The room is cozy and the shower room is nice and clean, so much green around that makes me feel relax. More over ,the landlords are real nice and warm, highly recommended to drop by and enjoy for a few days there!
Amazing place! If your heading katikati just for one day or if you want to stay for longer don't hesitate. The hostel is so warm and relaxing. And the owners Andrea & Rupert so friendly, nice and welcoming. I would stay again for sure!! Thanks
We had a very good stay here. It is a lovely place and the hosts Andrea and Rupert were great. They were very helpfull and gave us many tips about the activities in this area. This accomodation nearly felt like home because there a several things to, there is a lot of space in the rooms and we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere.
I own a small traffic management company from Turangi, and have been in contact with Andrea, and Rupert for the last month organizing accommodation for our projects in the Coromandel. I found them to be very friendly, and ready to assist me with my query, I highly recommend the Purple Hen Country Lodge, to all whom are traveling the Coromandel. Thank you Andrea, for all your assistance, I sincerely appreciate it.

What an amazing place to stay! I’ve stayed here for three weeks. The hostel is very comfortable and tidy. The owners are really sweet and friendly as your friend. 1000% recommend!!!!Rooms: 5/5
I only stayed for one night, but I enjoyed thoroughly! The host Andrea even picked me up from Katikati bus station, so I didn't have to walk all the way! Service 10/10 Location 10/10 a bit more rural area , but nice to enjoy the beautiful nature
Had the most beautiful 6 months at the Purple Hen. Best hostel in the Bay of Plenty area, peaceful, comfortable, with a lot of green and even small walking tracks around the property. Close to the countdown and to a beautiful pool in the river up the street. Our home in New Zealand!
