My husband and I went for a picnic at Purangi Regional Reserve on 12/7/2024.nnThe beach was very tranquil and peaceful and there was literally nobody there.nnWe highly recommend you to visit there.
Fantastic place to bring the family for a swim especially the incoming tide. Low tide prevents boats from launching and crossing the sand bar at the estuary mouth so perfect time for swimming especially during busy boating times. Great small children's playground and there's also a covered BBQ area - first in first served
Quiet reserve at the end of Cooks beach. Great place for kids as there is a small playground and you can swim in the estuary - beware of currents however when the tides turn. There is a coffee wagon here sometimes which is a little overpriced and barbeques in a covered area. The usual public toilets. There is a freedom camping area down the bottom but this is designated for self-contained only. A couple of picnic tables along the waterfront.
NO FREEDOM CAMPING HERE NOW!! And we know why, don't we legal SC Kiwis!! Overseas Freedom Campers and locals, car sleepers respect your surroundings, or we are going to lose even more of these sites!!
Beautiful spot to take the family for a day out. Plenty of shade during those hot summer days, and the water is family friendly for the young kids to swim.
