The Pupu Rangi Nature Sanctuary is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the protection of New Zealand’s native flora and fauna.
This sanctuary has been founded by someone like you; someone who loves nature and who tries to make a difference. Initially, the plan has been to protect the forest from the logging operations nearby. With time came experience and the understanding that the endangered kiwi birds living in the forest need protection too. The deeper we explored in this jungle-like environment, the more we realized that it is a never-ending source of learning about nature and about oneself. This is the discovery that we would like to share with you.
We are not on the tourist maps and we do not have tour buses stopping every hour or so. The Pupu Rangi Nature Sanctuary is located 250km from a crowded city, 50km from the closest supermarket, 2km from the next door neighbour, and at an arm's length from the Milky Way. For us, seeing two cars in a day is a traffic jam and being able to live in the middle of the forest is the ultimate lifestyle.
Our goal is to protect and extend a vibrant ecosystem while educating others on the importance of conservation. We view ourselves as partners with our visitors, volunteers, community, and the environment
