Puhoi is situated on the beautiful Puhoi River and is one of New Zealand’s two ethnic historic villages. PuhoiNZ.com is the go-to website for village info
The village, 50 kilometres north of Auckland and the gateway to Matakana Coast & Country, was originally settled in 1863 by immigrants from Bohemia, an area which is now the Czech Republic.
Today, Puhoi retains much of its Bohemian atmosphere and culture, but with vibrant contributions from residents originating across the world. The story of its European settlement is well documented by the Bohemian museum. The Puhoi Pub, with a collection of artifacts and colorful characters, is the main draw as well as the century-old Puhoi Church and the Puhoi Town Library.
