This was such an amazing experience! The boat ride was really pleasant with historic commentary. You could see straight down to the coal engine. You were also able to see them shovel coal into the engine. Their little museum was also quite extraordinary! Highly recommend!

Whanganui, voted most beautiful small city and steaming along the river you can tell why. Went on the jazz cruise and it was delightful, great music and a very friendly crew. I would recommend this to anyone.
Very helpful, when we went there the restaurant was fully booked up, but they found a part in the bar area where we could sit and enjoy our meal. There was a door that is not meant for everybody but because 2 people who were with walkers and that they opened it just for them.
Awesome experience. So glad I did it. Stunning views of the river and surrounds. It was fantastic hearing and seeing the history of this old steamer. Couldn't have had friendlier or more helpful staff. Great value too at just $45 for a 2 hour experience.
Was a great experience except for the family of Kiwi's that were inconsiderate of everyone on board including the crew. The crew were fantastic. The homing pigeon was an unexpected surprise.Visited onWeekendReservation recommendedYes
Great for an outing with friends, family and other good company. Board early to grab a good seat. The passenger count appears to include the indoor cabin seating, so best get on board early on a sunny day.
The only coal fired paddle steamer in New Zealand. Journey an hour up the Whanganui river as far as the Upongongaro church. A ride that was once a mainstay of 19th century travel. A great experience. Highly recommended.
Great little museum showing the history of the Whanganui river and the boats that have travelled along it. We took the 2 hour cruise on the steam powered boat at a cost of $49 per adult. The staff were excellent and the commentary very informative. Lovely tea, coffee and cakes at reasonable price on board.
