Very friendly staff and the coffee and burgers i ordered was the bomb,I met all kinds of people from all over the World at PointBreak.i would recommend this place and the rooms are fairly affordable 1/bedroom $60+..and it's a stone throw from away from New Brighton beachRooms: 5/5
You should know that at the time of writing, this place is not operating as a backpackers. It is providing long term accommodation to locals. When I arrived, the lights were off and the door was locked. After calling twice, the first call I got a voicemail the staff member was surprised that I had made an online booking. When he let me in, he immediately locked all the doors behind me, which seemed a bit sketchy. Anyway, I decided not to stay and bailed.
Stay couple days and got eaten alive by bed bugs, would not recommend. Was refunded days payed in advance but nothing for days stayed or compensation.Location: 3/5
Where do I start….knew it was a bit dodgy from the start when they tried saying my payment was not finalised so had to repay on the spot. The staff took us upstairs to the rooms and there was a drunk guy stumbling around slurring his words. The bed was horrible condition the mattress was falling apart as well as the base, the walls had been repainted and a picture on the wall wasn’t removed when it was painted. No heating or cooling, stunk bad. Absolutely horrible
An unexpected surprise. Great coffee, friendly service, excellent burger, crisp tasty fries cooked in new oil and all for a very good bargain price. Typical pleasant seaside retro 70s decor and all nice and clean toilets too. A little winner in New Brighton
This was the biggest disappointed of our whole road trip. The place looked nothing how it was advertised. It is completely run down. On arrival my partner and I were able to look past the filth and try and stay for the night. But then we could tell there were a few dodgy things happening, including what looked like a drug deal by the entrance. The final straw was when we got back to our room outside our door this man was shouting at this woman very aggressively. I went down to the front staff explained the situation and said I felt uncomfortable to stay here and asked for a refund. They said they would refund minus -15% but they couldn't do it at the moment because of the online booking. After phone tag for a few days and talking in circles. We have still not been refunded. Overall just a horrible experience.
Food is lovely, coffee is my favourite and staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. They are always happy to provide water for our dogs.
The whole place smelled of stale cigarettes and urine. Empty bottles and smelly socks left under the beds from the last guests. Beds had springs sticking out and missing slats. Wads of chewing gum stuck in places, grimy light switches and door handles. Only two toilets and showers for the whole floor of rooms. Very rough place. Would definitely not go back
Polite staff. Place is like a hostel and smells like hostel. Kitchen was very filthy. I think its the fault of stayers who don't follow hostel rules responsibly. Booked double room16 sqm but was given single room8 sqm. Photos for reference.
The cafe seems alright and the staff is friendly but the hostel itself is in a shameful state especially considering how expensive it is. The toilets are disgusting, rooms are untidy and the walls are thin enough that you'll hear anything your neighbor does. The kitchen is nice but the dishes are dirty more often than not. Would have rated higher if it was cheaper.
