We went in March. This is so beautiful and my top ten beaches ever. It is worth the winding drive to get here. Temperature was too cold for swimming for us but I would love to go back when it is warmer.
Piha Beach is located about 40 kilometers west of Auckland City, the black sand here is formed by ancient volcanic activity. In the center of the beach stands a huge volcanic rock called Lion Rock, which is an iconic landmark of Piha.
Piha Beach is a very popular beach for both tourists and local residents.nnMy husband and I have been to Piha Beach for several times and we both love the views there.nnWe enjoyed the great view there and the delicious real fruit ice cream at Cones On The Beach which is just opposite to Piha Mid Beach.nnWe highly recommend you to go there at daytime, but only night time.
Piha Beach is just awesome! The sand is perfect for a chilled-out walk. As the waves swept over the sand, they left behind this unreal mirror-like glow, turning the beach into a shimmering spectacle and you can't beat the reflection of Lion Rock on the sand. It's a top spot if you're after a laid-back day with some stunning views and drive through the Waitakere ranges is incredible.
