Founded in 2016, Piano Picnic teaches you to play piano naturally by ear in a way that is fun, easy & quick.

Story

Piano Picnic was created to bring together the theory, technique and skill needed to learn piano in a way that doesn’t overwhelm the student.

Mindful of people’s busy lifestyles and short attention spans, the course focuses on serving lessons as short, slick videos with an average length of just two minutes.

Along with ease of use and convenience, Ruth imbues the course with a passion for the instrument and the benefits of playing the piano for self-improvement and therapeutic outlet.

As an older adult beginner piano student I whole heartedly recommend Piano Picnic. Ruth is a talented and intuitive instructor with a laid back style and exceptionally gifted in imparting knowledge and skills in the most elegant fashion. She is totally dedicated to her art and passionate about students becoming the best they can be musically.
I thoroughly enjoyed the bite sized lessons offered. In each module, there is an element of theory, an element of ear training, and practice tips. Ruth responds to questions promptly and is passionate about non-traditional piano lessons. She is very encouraging, as is the student group. There is something for the complete beginner and for intermediate and advanced students. Ruth goes well beyond piano technique to delve into song writing, improvisation, recording techniques and more. Give it a try!
Piano Picnic is wonderful! Ruth Power is a brilliant and engaging teacher who is able to teach her courses in small bites. So if a student has only a few minutes a day to improve their piano-playing, it's easy to do with Piano Picnic. And...she makes certain that her students have fun while we're learning, too! Ruth is an absolutely wonderful and incredibly experienced pianist and teacher. I have been having one to one virtual sessions with her for a while and her patience, encouragement and enthusiasm is immensely helpful. I highly recommend working with her and/or signing up for her courses!
Piano picnic has proven to be a perfect fit for me. When I was young I had traditional lessons and very dull theory. Creativity was not encouraged. Ruth’s bite size lessons is just what I needed to keep me interested and motivated. And even when there is theory, she makes it fun. Thank you for renewing my love for music!
Piano Picnic concept literally changed my life. I always wanted to learn piano and one day I tried the first lessons of PP, as total beginner without any notion of music theory. What is striking is quickly, I had fun playing simple songs, recognizing the basic chords and chord progressions by ear. I particularly recommend "Prepare to Play", "The Super Basics" and "Songs By Ear" courses to start. Now I have fun breaking down my favorite songs and trying to play them in my own way, without the difficulty of reading sheet music. Try it too! and Ruth is an AWESOME teacher !
I've been a hobby guitar player for a few years, done various courses etc over the years. Recently retired, thought I'd like to learn Piano, but distant memories of Schoolboy lessons wasn't really what I wanted to repeat. Found Piano Picnic and their style of learning in 'bite size pieces' and more aimed at creative piano and not fixed to sight reading appealed to me. Became a member Sep 2021, the lessons/modules are online accessed when you want to, their content and quality is superb, they support the lessons by researching into the best published academic evidence based research to ensure you are getting the best and latest information on whatever topic the lesson is about. Ruth's teaching style is great, each lesson or online session is always well researched, delivery is both engaging, fun but still ensuring the key aspects are understood. I have never found myself 'wandering in thought' on the lessons, just like the 'Goldilocks' principle, not too much, not too little, Just Right. There are also monthly live coaching sessions which are recorded for access if you can't make the live online session. Having done a fair few music training programs online over the years, Piano Picnic are certainly at the top of the music education game. I've not only learnt about Piano, but I've learnt lots more about music theory along the way. No hesitation in giving Piano Picnic 5 Stars.
