High Quality Early Childhood Education
Our programme has an emphasis on following the interests of the children and facilitating social competency. Several children are involved in making cards, gifts, and illustrating & telling stories. Other children have been involved over time with making train tracks and block building.
Children have many challenges to enable them to develop their physical skills and we regularly use the back garden for games (rugby/soccer) as well as developing a vegetable gardening and exploring in the ‘wild corner’.
Each day we collect the lunch boxes in the red bins and store them for lunchtime. We have a rolling morning tea from 9:15 -10:15am with food prepared at Kindergarten.
We encourage the children to wash their hands and come to sit at the tables. We sit with the children to encourage them to eat. The children return their lunchboxes to their bags. If there is food left in their box they sometimes bring it out later in the session and eat seated at the kai table.
WE ARE A NUT FREE KINDERGARTEN.
We support the Before School Check health programme. Their coordinators come in to kindergarten to carry out their checks in the year prior to each child starting school. We feed into 5 local schools (Wilford, Sacred Heart, Petone Central, Hutt Central and St. Peter & Paul) and have information about them. There are occasional visits by groups of children or teachers to and from these schools and we advertise their public events.
