Drove all the way down from Christchurch to visit Pegasus Bay for its Riesling wines and wasn't disappointed. They offer a tasting of several wines for about 10 NZD which could also be counted into the purchase of a bottle of wine. I enjoyed the Riesling wines the most and the late-harvest ones have varying sweetness which makes excellent dessert wines. The Encore was pretty nice, it was richly sweet like honey and leaves a nice lingering sweet aroma, something that is bound to leave an impression. There is also a much lighter version: The Aria if the Encore is too rich. There is also a garden to stroll around and a deli to chill and relax. The pies by Hope River is pretty delicious. I had the Lamb, Rosemary and Kumara which has nice tender, juicy chunks of lamb and delightful crust. The pricing is reasonable too.
The best wine tasting experience in NZ thus far! A vast range of interesting and special wine available, the staff are professional, knowledgeable and friendly. On top of everything, their garden is absolutely mind blowing, so sad the restaurant isn’t open that day, would love to be back for the food.
Brilliant wine and gardens! Nothing better than selecting your own platter items from the deli and finding a spot in the sun to enjoy your goodies. The staff were very welcoming and kind. Will definitely return!
Beautiful vineyard. Simple hot and deli food. Friendly staff and great wine tasting experience
Very pretty winery with gardens and a beautiful lake, there’re ducks, swans, fish and eels in it. Love the way food is provided, you need to pick a cute wooden box to collect a variety of wine pairing snacks like prosciutto, cheese, olives, pickles, bread etc. The kitchen also provide several flavors of homemade meat pies, they taste super yum especially the pie crust, very nice bakery! Pick any indoor or outdoor seats you wish, both are comfortable and relaxing. Staff are friendly and caring. The interior design has some wine bottle creations, and I love the wine related quote written on walls, give you lot of feeling and smiles.
Amazing place to visit. My wife, uncle and I had a great time here trying a dozen or so different wines in the tasting room. Luke did an excellent job explaining the differences in the wines we tried, could answer our questions well and was very professional. Also, the garden is pretty nice…
The estate is absolutely stunning, there is plenty of parking and the cellar door is part of a mansion that overlooks the hills, gardens and ponds below. The restaurant here is no longer open which is a shame but the wine is still excellent. Tastings provide you with many options of reds and whites, and it’s free if you spend over a certain limit. Once you’re done with tasting, it’s worth taking a walk in their gardens below, it is amazing and so serene. Only note is that the tasting room gets very very busy, we only had one person serving more than 10 groups at one point, got a little out of hand where you just get poured your wine and they’re off helping the next customer. Gotta be patient!
Great place for wine tasting. The experience was wonderful, great staff, very friendly who treated each guest with great care. Told us to feel free to take photos, no need to buy anything from them. Of course it got us to buy more.
I cannot rate this restaurant and winery highly enough. My partner and I visited at the end of our trip and only had an hour to squeeze in a lunch. From the moment we booked, the staff accommodated our short time frame and were cheerful and helpful with everything. We arrived early to walk the grounds, strolling down the rolling hills and through the wetland with swans and ducks. We also got in half an hour of wine tasting, with a really interesting range of interesting wines to suit different tastes, with the true strength being the Rieslings. For our meal, we only had time for a starter and main, and the waiters and kitchen made sure everything came out quickly for us. The dishes were out of this world, presented beautifully with well balanced flavours, and fresh natural ingredients. We were lucky enough to be there for a special dish if lobster tail and truffle. My only regret is that we couldn't commit to a long afternoon of boozy lunching. Don't miss this place, and make sure you leave yourself enough time and money to really enjoy it!
A great place for a tasting, lunch or just to check out the gardens. Pegasus Bay produce a great selection of wines and the cellar door is well worth a visit. They don’t charge tasting fees but it can get busy. Their restaurant similarly gets busy but if you can get in request a table in the garden during summer. They have a great menu and amazing gardens with plenty of shade.
