Nothing much to see, it was boring and the worker followed us around like a stalker I make the assumption its because we are brown, mean while my pakeha friends are walking by unnoticed.nnAnnoying and glad I didnt make a scene, because im that TYPE and THAT PERSON.nnPataka has had some great years, please bring them back. Change workers or their bias of others and bring more ART!nnI have attached photos of the pieces I did like.
Okay, so I popped in here on a whim, and it was actually pretty chill. It's a good spot if you need a bit of quiet. They switch up the art stuff they have on display, so you'd have to check their website to see what's happening.nnThey've got a little library inside, which is cool, and some shops selling art, crafts, and jewelry. Plus, they had some really nice jade pieces. There's also a restaurant if you get hungry, and the food was decent and not too expensive.nnHonestly, I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. It's a nice place to wander around for a bit.
Pātaka Art + Museum is truly a standout cultural destination! This place is an absolute treasure, offering a beautifully curated and incredibly diverse range of exhibitions. I was particularly impressed by their strong focus on contemporary Māori and Pacific art and culture, which offers such rich and meaningful insights.nnThe space itself is welcoming and thoughtfully designed, providing a peaceful environment to wander and absorb the art. The serene Japanese Garden is a lovely bonus, offering a tranquil spot for reflection. With rotating exhibitions, there is always something new and inspiring to discover. It's a fantastic resource for the community and well worth the drive for anyone visiting the Wellington region. Highly recommended for a truly enriching experience!
I went to an opening of a Māori art expedition. It was an amazing experience. Supported with some outstanding poetry, beautiful waiata and kapahaka, and famous author and artists.
Pataka is so good. they’re very open with diverse artists, especially Māori & Pasifika. a lot of their art have political meanings, which is awesome. there’s an interactive play room for children, easy to get around too
