Story

Recent surveys show the average New Zealander earns a little over $41,000 a year and spends 160% of that annually. This means that the average Kiwi is in debt and struggling to make ends meet. Since the Christchurch earthquakes the housing market has increased dramatically and people are finding it hard to even meet their rising rental costs, let alone dream of having a mortgage and owning their own home.

So what do we do about it? Where's the community action? How can first time buyers get on the property ladder and support their families?

We believe that building a community from the grassroots is critical to the survival of Christchurch and greater New Zealand. A community that thrives on living in warm, dry and comfortable housing that they own themselves, rather than rent off of others. Imagine a whole neighbourhood, town or city where everyone owns their own home that employs modern technologies to save the homeowner tens of thousands each year in interest charges, in energy bills and in other fees associated with building a home. Wouldn't things be different?

Paul Hennessey, the inspiration behind Park Homes, had a vision to help people get out of the housing rut and into their own homes, designed by them and built at a fraction of the cost of traditional housing. A Park Home is not just more economical to build, it's also more energy efficient because it is made out of materials not traditionally used in housing. Imagine a home that you can transport anywhere in the country, or add onto easily as your family grows. That's a Park Home. Park Homes are not just houses, they're part of a movement towards getting more Kiwis into their first home, today.
