Come to the Oyster & Wine Festival Matakana to taste and celebrate the peak of the local oyster season.
Save the date and get shucking because the Matakana Oyster & Wine Festival is on Sunday 8 October at the Woolshed, Matakana Country Park. Junction Magazine has teamed up with the Mahurangi Oyster Farmers and seven local oyster farmers who promise to prepare the delectable little devils in a myriad of ways and the local drops to pair them with.
Whether you’re an oyster lover or not the day will provide an all-weather celebration of local food, wine & delights with live music, shucking competitions, cooking demonstrations, face painting and crafts for the kids. Enjoy a glass or three of local favourites and not have to worry about the drive to Auckland with a leisurely return trip via the special event Mahu Express.
The beauty of the oysters from this region is they have a uniquely fresh taste with October known for producing a plump creamy and less salty taste than other growing areas, after all the Mahurangi is where oyster farming started in New Zealand.
Matakana Oyster & Wine Festival is looking for expressions of interest from local wine, beer and food producers to join the party. October is prime oyster season and the beginning of the visitor influx. Register your interest to exhibit by Friday 11th August, contact Matakana Oyster & Wine Festival at [email protected]
