It was nice to be able to see all of the local birds in New Zealand. Getting to see the kiwi in their dark room felt a little bit like playing Where's Waldo. They made us wait a bit, but they were worth the anticipation. The guide at the front was ridiculously funny and super friendly. Only downside is that multiple areas of the park were closed for construction, which limited us to far fewer exhibits
Best Kiwi bird viewing to date, and I've seen a dozen or so enclosures to date. The park is cool, get right up to the animals....fun for the kids too as the some of the birds are well adjusted to human presence. Park is currently under minor renovation, but still quite good.
Went here to see some kiwis and to learn more about them. Definitely got the experience. There were other birds in the kiwi house also. There's an aggressive duck that made the experience really enjoyable. Charged at us and quacked loudly every time he saw us. Some cute geckos too.
Great experience. Ticket guarantees repeat entry to allow you to see the kiwi if you miss first day. You can also come and go on the day. Easy walk around. Plenty for kids to look, search and find. Lovely friendly staff. Park opposite for lunch time break.Visited onWeekday
No lie, this place is NOT worth the price. It’s a pretty small place with a mediocre selection of creatures. We walked around the small park and enjoyed a few parrots and some other squawky birds. We caught the eel feeding and it earned a generous 6/10 for excitement. Turns out kiwi birds sleep a vast majority of the day, and even more so depending on the time of year. We were unable to view any kiwis when we went. That being said, the park staff were knowledgeable, kind, and let us keep the receipt to be used another day, should we come down that way again. That was a very nice gesture on their behalf, and although I do not expect to return, it’s still a good move to build customer relations. Key takeaway: It’s overpriced for what you get to see and do. Don’t expect to actually see any kiwis.
Visited twice now, two main kiwi bird areas where we've seen kiwi foraging on both visits. Heaps cool. Lots of exhibit areas along a easy pace walk track, cool eel area and the aviary is great! Staff know their stuff.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the birds and reptiles at the sanctuary. It’s really cool to see birds that are difficult to see in the wild. Ticket prices are pretty reasonable considering it allows you to listen to all the talks and feed the Kakariki.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo

Great place to see new zealands birds especially the kiwi. Just be sure to be very quiet otherwise you'll never see the Kiwis as they are very sensitive to noise. Also you'll be in a dark room as they are also sensitive to light, so you won't be able to take photos and videos even if you try. The souvenir shop also has some unique gifts.
