This is an outstanding place to visit is you are in Taupo. The colours of the rock are magnificent and the routes laid out take you past all the main geothermal features of the site. Getting to the trails from the visitors centre is simple - there are regular ferries to and from the landing site and there is plenty of parking space at the entrance.
What an incredible natural phenomenon to witness up close. Not to be missed! The bubbling mud and the peaceful cave were my favourite spots. I would highly recommend a visit!nThe staff were all professional and helpful. The chicken and mushroom pie I enjoyed was delicious.nNB: There are a LOT of steps, and the area is naturally quite warm, so be prepared with plenty of water and suitable attire.
A short boat ride across the river takes you to the end of a boardwalk where you start a delightful walk through a geothermal landscape of geysers, multicoloured rocks, boiling water and mud pools. Lots of smouldering and steaming holes off the sides of the track as well. A nice climb up the hill provides variety in the viewing angles and it’s a site not to be missed.
Found this on line and agree with the reviews. No bus loads of people, plenty to see. Walk has lots of steps but ground good. Nice short boat trip before being left to walk around the trails alone. Cafe had good food and gift shop pleased my mum looking for gifts. Highly recommended.
The walk could use some signs to help identify features and formation of the features. Beautiful, lots of stairs and paths can be Slightly confusing. Bring water!! Water fountain is not available at location but public restrooms are.
