We stayed at the Kereru room and it was nice and had a good view from the bed. There are stairs leading to the bed which aren't bad and have handles to hold onto but if much older I would pick another room. Our stay was pleasant and the dogs were absolutely lovely. One thing to note is that the whole place is very much a renovated house to accommodate a few people - not the usual backpackers and instead one kitchen with one stove and individual bathrooms and not as stalls. Luckily, it wasn't busy when we stayed but could potentially be a problem if there were many staying here at the same time. We did appreciate the free breakfast items available.
Absolutely wonderful stay at Ora Retreat, it's really such a nicely thought out and chilled place to be, the lounge is a good place to relax, the kitchen is nice, bright and spacious, the room we had was comfortable with a large bed, and the decking area has stunning views. It's got a proper laid back atmosphere and I'd love to come stay again, Paul the owner and his nephew were also lovely, helpful and kind. Would highly recommend!
The review you wish you saw before booking.nnThe lake views are beautiful and the family is hospitable… but the deception of all the photos is worth mentioning.nnAlthough the room in the house is not bad, it’s a warm small room with a bed. That is it.nIt is a shared space with up to 8people and a very shared bathroom. Many people in cabins also joined to shower as they could not locate the assigned shower. The space is also loud, worth knowing.nnAlthough everyone can appreciate individual beliefs, the living space is a very specific religion, whilst being more shown as a peaceful yoga retreat, there is a slight feel of a pushed agenda with a massive shrine on the one side of the room and bits around.nWhilst some might be indifferent, having strong beliefs of other religions this comes across as the opposite of what I’m sure was the intention of the hosts being welcoming people.nnAn upgraded backpackers would be a genuine description as you would know what you were walking into and prepared for all it entails. Whilst “homey and welcoming,” honesty speaks volumes and it’s lacking in this department.
A wonderful stay.nnKari, Paul and family made me feel so warmly welcomed- ora retreat is like a home away from home. Comfy beds, snuggly linen & blankets and a magical location. Beautiful peaceful vibe.nnHighly recommend for solo female travellers. I felt completely safe and rested here nnCan’t wait to come back.
A beautiful place in the mountains with some really amazing views of the lake and the mountains. The hosts were even more awesome and friendly and made my stay one to remember. Definitely recommend, an amazing stay.
