The review you wish you saw before booking.nnThe lake views are beautiful and the family is hospitable… but the deception of all the photos is worth mentioning.nnAlthough the room in the house is not bad, it’s a warm small room with a bed. That is it.nIt is a shared space with up to 8people and a very shared bathroom. Many people in cabins also joined to shower as they could not locate the assigned shower. The space is also loud, worth knowing.nnAlthough everyone can appreciate individual beliefs, the living space is a very specific religion, whilst being more shown as a peaceful yoga retreat, there is a slight feel of a pushed agenda with a massive shrine on the one side of the room and bits around.nWhilst some might be indifferent, having strong beliefs of other religions this comes across as the opposite of what I’m sure was the intention of the hosts being welcoming people.nnAn upgraded backpackers would be a genuine description as you would know what you were walking into and prepared for all it entails. Whilst “homey and welcoming,” honesty speaks volumes and it’s lacking in this department.
If you’re wanting to find a space to get away from it all, this is the perfect spot. Small communal-style retreat with clean facilities, fantastic lounge/deck/spa/sauna, shared kitchen & bathroom. All in a serene setting of NZ’s finest natural beauty! Just a few minutes drive from Queenstown.
Loved our stay in the fern room. Felt like a little family as soon as we walked in! And the views are out of this world. Stay here rather than queenstown main street if you want more quiet and nature. I didn't get to go to any workshops/yoga/meditation while I was here as there wasn't any events on, but would love to visit again when there is! Depending on timing, you may get to enjoy some delicious fruit from the family farm - and do check out The OutPost shop their fam business! in Queenstown while you're there too!
Cosy and peaceful stay. Carrie is very friendly and supportive, also having a good heart to support local businesses. Room is space and has amazing view to the lake. Ora is close to the bus station so it would take ~10 mins by bus to the downtown. We stayed at Aurora which was next to restroom so it was a bit noisy at night when others used bathroom. Aside from that, everything is perfect, we have 1 day away from the downtown, enjoyed the quiet night and sunshine. Definitely we want to go back if there’s availability ;
I had a few fantastic days at Ora Retreat. Like I was at home but even better. The relaxing yoga in the morning, the dip in the ice-cold lake nearby, the pleasant drinking of tea and talking with Cary and the other guests. It was very relaxed and personal. My stay with Cary will be a lasting memory. With love, Deborah
