Everything you need as a family outing is here. There is a swimming pool, swings and playground for kids, great beaches for rugby and volleyball and swimming and surfing. You can also park your holiday camper van and enjoy the day. There are life guards patrolling the place. During low tide, the sand beach stretches about 400 m of plain sand from the surf club. Great place to hang out as families. Very clean and most facilities open for public use.
Lovely Sandy Beach Good for Swimming, Surfing and with a great Camping Ground right on the Beach. Don't drive on the Beach as I did though.
I've made so many great memories at Opunake Beach over the last 21 years and caught many sunets. In the summer the beach is amazing with lifeguards active during the summer and on a sunny day it'll be packed. You'll struggle to find a park down the hill but don't worry because there's plenty more parking up the hill. They also hold a beach carnival with food stalls and a miss opunake pagent. The dairy is only open during the holidays and their beach camp is big and modernized hut prices have definitely gone up in recent years. To this day I believe it's still one of the best beaches I've been too. Great for swimming, surfing and paddle boarding
Wonderful beach in this beautiful coastal charming town of Opunake. Beach is surrounded by cliff on each side. You can walk through the garden at the top and continue on the cliff with a very nice view. This is a part of the coastal walkway. There’s a surf lifesaving club , a campground and a little store for ice cream . The cliffs are covered with big Pohutukawa tree that gives a beautiful red flowers colour for Christmas.
Love visiting this beach - it's wide and spacious and often can watch surfers trying out the waves. Sometimes, there are good waves, and other times, it will seem so tranquil and peaceful. Great place to take a picnic lunch. There is a holiday facility and children's playground that is easily accessible. There is also a surf lifesaving club at the beach. You can simply enjoy sea-gazing; or an ice cream; or maybe dip your toes in the water or go for a swim if it's a lovely fine day you'll probably capture a wonderful sunset - it is possible to drive a several minutes at the top road level and overlook Opunake Beach from above!
