This was truly and incredible spot. The monument is spectacular. We loved how Omaha beach has not become developed and taken over. It was quiet and peaceful. Definitely worth the visit.
Like all of the landing sites in Normandy this makes you take stock and give thanks to those who walked before under completely different circumstances. Omaha was incredibly moving and testament to unparalleled courage
Standing on the beach and seeing what the troops needed to do was amazing. Overwhelming. How did they do it? Gun fire. Glass bombs. Big obstacles and rocks. The tide changes. Wow. Must visit.
Incredible experience! So grateful to the men that were so brave! What a beautiful memorial! The beach is simply stunning. What a great place to reflect on the past and pray for the future
You can't really say you enjoyed the area because of what we know what happened there... The cemetery is beautiful in its own way if you know what I mean ... Everything is so hard to explain you have to visit it and see for yourself ...then and only then can you relate to what I have said.
There has been some memorial that cough me. But this one was definitely most impressive one. I'm totally from different ethnic and culture. But what has been lost in ww 2 was big. All that heroes and their stories got me. Everyone in whole Europe and world got to be appreciate to them and what they've done. One of must be seen place in the whole world. And special thanks to French government for what they've done with that great memorial Area including keeping it so clean, designing etc.
This was one of the most memorable and meaningful places to visit. When visiting the Cemetery it's difficult to find a way down to the actual beach and when we were there the gate was closed to the obvious and easiest way down to the beach. However, If you exit the Cemetery and past the parking lot there is a walking path off to the left that will take you directly down to the beach. Along the way are sever bunkers you can explore.
It's hard to imagine that one of history's bloodiest battle occured there. Nowadays it's an enjoyable, mundane place. You wouldn't guess 2000+ soldiers died on this beach if it weren't for all the memorials all around. Just behind the beach there's a cemetery where you can find the graves of 9000+ soldiers, remembered for decades to come.
Mixed feelings about this really, standing on the beach thinking what had happened here and looking out to sea thinking about the soldiers and looking up to the cliffs is truly spectacular but it is hard to get in that frame of mind as it is so busy. There were coaches full of people. The car park is only 1€ for an hour which is enough if you're not eating in one of several restaurants. There are lots of Americans visiting obviously, while waiting at the car park ticking machine a guy with an American accent said ' My father was here in 1945 he never had to buy a ticket'. Do yourself a favour and drive to WN 60 at the top of the cliff, it's a few German bunkers with gun mounts still in place, you can go into the bunkers and look down on the beach and very few people there, it's amazing see my review on it
Omaha is a must see, next to Gold, if your doing some Dday history tour. Check out the museum, the bunkers and beach.
