This is a place to know and to test.nThe bakery is just devine.nGreat baking goods.nIt's not that much a place to stay as there is a little space in the backyard.nThe Café they run in Paekakariki has more and better seating.nBut for the baking, it is always worth coming here.
Had heard a lot of noise around olde beach bakery.nFound it to be very mid and unfortunately Won’t be going back.nSpending around $60 at the bakery I had a different expectation from the experience.nnThe $9 yes $9 curry Pie was a nice flavour but instead of brushing egg/milk over the pastry I think they may have dunked it in egg/milknThe pastry cut my gum nI tried 2 other pies aswell - midnThe $4.50 Mince and cheese Savoury pie was a bolognese mince pie.nI tried a donut that I couldn’t finish due to a massive sweetness overload and a filled roll for redemption and was unfortunately not pleased.nMy bro got a scone -didn’t offer to heat it up and a donut he couldn’t finish either due to being too sweet.nnI understand the community and demographic surrounding for this bakery is sitting nicely at 90.9% European/Pākehā for with 4,845 38.1% aged 30 to 64, and 4,632 36.4% aged 65 or older.nIt probably makes sense as to why they lack flavour and have overpriced cabinet food.nnDont buy the hype!nTheir pies do not look like their photos
Have been to Olde Bakery twice now, once to pick up some things to share with my boyfriend and his family, and another time very recently for coffee and something sweet with friends. The second time we sat outside and enjoyed the Sunday morning sun in the courtyard - it was so lovely. You can’t go wrong here as there are great options for everyone. I really enjoyed my coffee and hot cross bun, and remember finding the donuts and pastries to be super tasty! Highly recommend giving this place a visit, I will be back again I am sure. There’s a reason it is so popular!
Over my short stay in Waikanae beach , I had breakfast at this bakery twice. First morning I had a coffee and almond croissant , the coffee was absolutely awful, burnt taste and unpleasant to drink, almond croissant was absolutely amazing!!! Next morning, I had creamy mushroom pie and it was outstanding!!! I have never tasted pie better than that!nIt was another lady making coffee that morning and it was spot on just how I like it. Definitely will come back to this bakery again when I’m staying in Waikanae
Probably one of the best bakeries in the Wellington region. Their baked goods are a little on the expensive side, but almost all divine. Yes their baguettes are a bit crunchy and chewy, just how they should be, though fresh they are quite a bit softer. I often get fresh ones, chop into 3 and freeze them straight away and reheat to make a sandwich later, they are great like that. If you go in a bit later and want one from the cabinet, expect it to be a little rough though! Top tip, get the Turkish sandwiches instead, the tuna one is divine.nnPies are good, doughnuts are a bit of a sweetness overload though and quite large, would suggest toning down the sugar, making them smaller or somehow less sweet. I felt like I was coming down with diabetes after one!
