Okupata Herefords was established in 1980 by the Atkins family farmed in Oparau on 2000arces of rolling to steep coastal country with no flats.
Currently we have 200 stud horned and polled cows, all registered.
We have selected Sire bulls from the North and South Island to improve Okupata Hereford stud genetics. Our philosophy is to purchase 100 percent sound bulls that are well doing, withholds quiet temperament, strong constitution, high growth weights and good colour. By specifically searching and selecting stud bulls with these characteristics we believe this will provide our blood lines with cattle that will uphold quality and long ability.
To assure the quality of our bulls we farm them on steep hill country and still achieve weight targets. Running cattle on steep country from the day they are born provides us with a huge advantage over cattle farmed on flat country. It is clear that this method supports the development of strong hind quarters which assists with the intensive breeding seasons preventing bull breakdowns.
We guarantee 100 percent soundness and fertility in our stud bulls.
