Oamaru Botanic Gardens

A truely beautiful public garden. It was a relaxing way to spend a Saturday morning. Highly recommend. I also spotted a number of picnic tables in pockets of trees and flowers.

Nice quiet garden to clear your mind and enjoy the serenity of the garden. As not much people visits it in the late afternoon, it was perfect for a quiet stroll and photo-taking of the sceneries, gardens and Japanese bridge.

Some areas look lovely and other parts of the garden need better maintenance. Overall a nice area to take a stroll.

Awesome area to wander around. Plenty of space and features to see. Good way to digest a good meal from a Thames Street eatery.

Beautiful and peaceful Garden, with a variety of flowers and plants. One of the highlights of visiting Oamaru.

Main garden areas are nice but I found the side tracks and smaller gardens to be neglected. Opportunity to make the garden great again with more volunteers to help. It's a good walk around the gardens and the bird avery is a surprise to find there. Close to town and camp grounds. Playground nearby.

One of the best gardens in New Zealand. As a landscape designer, I love how they designed the pathways and accessibilities to connect different parts of the garden from any entrance. Plenty of water tap throughout the garden so you definitely won't be dehydrated exploring here. There is only one toilet at the playground.

Opened in 1876 Oamaru Public Gardens is one of the oldest in New Zealand and gosh is it pretty. It sits right by the town and is very neat and tidy with lots of pathways and hidden nocks, the Peter Pan statue, Humpty Dumpty, aviaries, Chinese Garden, trees laden with leaves, glasshouse and so many more things. It really reflects Oamaru's Victorian culture and the birds are so beautiful. Also it is said to be a ‘Garden of Significance’ according to a rating by somebody :

Worth a wander around these beautiful gardens. Gorgeous secret little paths that take you into fairy tale settings. Don't forget to visit the cheeky birds in the Avery.
