What can I say, this is a great place to stay. All the stuff for very welcoming and very helpful. The facilities were really good and a very good standard of cleaning. The shower blocks for men and women were very clean and could cater for a number of people. There is a well-equipped kitchen with multiple cookers, sinks and worktops though you do need to provide your own cooking utensils. Also a nice selection of gas barbecues that you can use. We had booked a cabin for two which had a nice veranda with seats outside overlooking the sea. The beach itself was very nice with fine black sand and a people out surfing and kite surfing when we were there. Lifeguards were present during the day with swimming recommended between the flags. A nice location for exploring the local area or even just relaxing on the beach all day.
We stayed in a cabin with en suite for a coule of nights. The units are compact but have everything needed. Quiet. Modern. Spotlessly clean. And a super shower - high pressure water. But its the cleanliness that impressed us most.
Great little campsite in a wonderful location. Great for us off season, I suspect like most camp grounds, it will be really busy in summer, but we enjoyed being only one of a handful of campers on a late September weekend. The unpowered tent spots are large and have a great position right on the ocean front. Nice, clean facilities too. Will definitely be one of my go to spots.
Awesome location but man we had an awful stay with a massive party group next to our campsite with small children. They were loud way past midnight, not respecting quiet times and campsite staff nowhere to be found, not there to fix the issue at all. Bring your earplugs or prepare for sleepless nights!
Great holiday park. Stayed in a cabin, 2 people for $105. Cabin didn't have a kitchenette however the communal facilities were more than enough to cook some porridge for breakfast.
The campsite was easy to find on google maps, but upon arrival, we were greeted with an auto barrier with an equally confusing map on the reception location. We tried walking up the slope and around to no avail, but as all helpful New Zealanders do, one friendly chap came to assist us and directed us across the street to the reception location. Then thereafter we were greeted with a friendly guy who promptly checked us in and passed us a RFID tag for our vehicle to access the powered campsite. We loved the sea view from our powered campsite, and the turf was nicely trimmed, but lo and behold, those pesky sandflies came in the evening time, and my wife took the brunt of it, and we also noticed a few other campers also got busy with their bushman insect repellant, but we had gotten some bites, such is the normal camping scene in NZ when you are near the lake, beach or water sources. Our campsite is situated a pretty walk from the shower facilities and we have to brave the outdoors battles thru the sandflies again to get there. But once we locate the shower facilities, there is a numerical lock to contend with to access the shower room. After a nice cooling shower, we retreated back to our campervan for a quiet night's rest, until the next morning where the crowd movement picked up. Do slow down when inside the campsite as there are lotsa children running about. When we were leaving for our next destination, we just went back to the receptionist and dropped off the RFID tag and thanked him for the service rendered. They can do better with a more updated map of the reception though.
Stayed 2 nights in KT1 - lovely cabin away from the crowds - good bathroom, well equipped full kitchen, with plenty of room outside to sit and enjoy the view and the tui's in the surrounding trees.
Had an amazing stay here for our first time in New Plymouth. Good facilities. Hat off to James, very friendly and made us feel very welcomed to Oakura
Stayed for 5 days in one of their spare camping spots. Amazing wee place, super friendly staff and facilities.
