This was the first time to this bar and it was one of both positives and negatives. The atmosphere was good and the staff were friendly but the the meal was not as described. My partner ordered the steak with a mushroom sauce which was not cooked how she want but over done and the mushroom sauce was more like a gravy with mushrooms added. As for my meal I ordered a salmon steak but got a slice of a fillet. Check out my photos and you can see what I mean. Would I go back yes would I order the same no as I personally don't think it was value for money.
Had a fantastic meal at a very reasonable price. Food was very tasty. Well presented and plentiful. Staff were great. Attentive and lovely. Highly recommend this restaurant for a great meal and atmosphere. We will be back.
The food was good but the service was pretty loose. While friendly, we were charged twice for one meal - which luckily another server caught before it arrived - and our drinks were forgotten so we sat at the table with nothing for the first 20 minutes. Even then, and after acknowledging their mistakes, our drinks and cutlery weren't brought out to us, we had to collect them ourselves while our food sat at the table. The place was far from busy as well. As others have said, the three staff basically stayed behind the bar. No check after the meals had arrived and no follow-up to see if we wanted more drinks or any dessert you order at the bar and pay for everything up front. Finally, while the bar's decor and atmosphere was generally good, a 'big ben' style doorbell rang out every time someone's order was ready. I would maybe go back for the food if I thought it was just one tired staff member's mistake, but reviews going back months say similar things, with no answer from the business owner. Pretty average experience.
Pizzas were so so so so so good!! Once of the servers was a little rude to the men in our group but seemed fine with the women which was odd but was a nice meal and reasonably priced for what you get which is banging!Food: 5/5
Just ordered our dinner and wanted to change one of the pizzas from small to large and I was told “no” by the lady with all the makeup. Pretty poor as my order was just placed. The rest of the staff were lovely. Visiting and had been here during the day for drinks which were great, poor hospitality from her.
The absolute best pizzas I’ve ever had are from here, we tried 3 of them oven a couple different nights and all 3 were amazing. Also tried a few other meals and all top notch, service and atmosphere were great. Highly recommendFood: 5/5
Best roast dinner I’ve had in NZ! And so cheap! I’d definitely come back next time I’m passing through Hamner
The pizza we bought was a loaded vege pizza and it was delicious. Nice base with lots of toppings. Staff were quick to service us. We played a few games of pool and enjoyed a couple of drinks. The inside and atmosphere was a bit tired and dated but otherwise a good place to go and not far from where we were staying. Vegetarian options: Had two vegetarian pizzas to choose from.
Ate here twice over the weekend and found the service somewhat lacking especially when we arrived the first time to order takeaway pizzas. A little smile and an acknowledgment would have been nice instead of being ignored by the flamboyant bar tender. Pizzas were a little doughy and we weren't asked what base we wanted. Second time we came back for the roast meal and was surprised to find all vegetables a little raw still. Customer service and attention to detail goes a long way.
Vegetarian meal was only chickpeas and nothing else as described!!! We went for a drink in the pub and the bartender was dressed as I thought looked awesome and empowering. I asked for a pic and received a rude, abrupt “I’m not a circus act” ! SERIOUSLY??? Ruined my first day of holiday, my confidence and belief in my own good intentions. Unkind and not necessary. Vegetarian options: Looked and sounded good but not what was described.
