We love Nikau Valley! The scenery is awesome but the real treat is Uncle John, the horse whisperer! No bits used in horses mouth's. It's an EXPERIENCE aka, more than just a horse ride!
I have ridden for many years in many different countries, but riding with John was my best experience so far! His philosophy regarding horses and horseriding is so beautiful, the horses are in great shape, well taken care of and very responsive, the bush tracks are breath taking! I enjoyed my 3 hour ride so much that I immediately rebooked for another 3 hours the next day! Can highly recommend for both experienced and novice riders! Thank you John!
Our whanau of 4 headed to Nikau Valley horse treks with John owner which we always do every year while on holiday at Awakeri Hot Springs. Very quiet natured horses as John has a holistic way with them, no bits in the horses mouths! Our blind/autistic daughter loves trekking + our 16yr old daughter who isn't so horsey totally enjoys herself! If you're in the Awakeri/Whakatane area & looking for an activity for yourself or the children give Nikau Valley horse treks a go you won't be disappointed you get to learn alot in such a short time as John is an extremely experienced horseman! Fantastic morning, amazing horses and trek with great views. Enjoyed the natural horsemanship. No bits a whole new way of enjoying a great ride, Very responsive horses felt incredibly safe.
Great experience with a superb horseman, and great tolerant horses. From our experienced daughter, to a rode as a child older adult, the hilly terrain was managed with ease by the horses. Hope to return before we fly back to blighty. Thank you
