Our Place to Learn
Ngaruawahia High School is a unique Kura, which has provided the families of Ngaruawahia and the surrounding areas with quality co-educational education for over 50 years. As a school, we embrace the spirit of the Treaty of Waitangi and encourage bi-cultural and multi-cultural perspectives. Ngaruawahia High School recognises that it is the right of every student to enjoy an education based on values that promote personal excellence and success in all areas. We encourage respect for self, others and our environment, personal integrity, compassion, self-esteem, whanau, and acceptance of cultural and individual differences.
At Ngaruawahia High School, our students are our main priority. We have a clear vision of a 21st-century learning environment where learning is relevant and encompasses a range of curriculum areas and the key competencies. We recognise that student needs drive our learning programmes, which also adhere to the New Zealand Curriculum.
Learning is co-constructed with students, inquiry-based and pursued through authentic contexts. At Ngaruawahia High School, we understand that learning is no longer simply the memorisation of concepts and curriculum, but an active process whereby students participate fully to gain transferable skills that will make them successful citizens. This is achieved through personalised learning programmes designed to meet the individual needs and interests of every student.
We also understand that learning occurs in many contexts, so we embrace a wide-range of experiences, interests and opportunities that enhance learning. In our school, students will have access to a high-quality learning environment, which promotes the best possible educational, cultural, social and recreational development of the individual. As a school of under 250, students enjoy very small classes and will at times be team-taught. All students have full access to individual learning devices to help them on their academic journeys.
