Our family of 13 booked a Hobbiton and geyser tour two months ago for our cruise port stop scheduled for today. We did not receive any cancellation email from NZ discovery tours and only found out that the tour was not going ahead when no one turned up at the port to pick us up! Extremely bad communication from the provider : Only consolation was that we had a lovely tour guide Terry from Custom Day tours who were able to take us to see the local Geyser- unfortunately all the Hobbiton places were booked out.
Fantastic tour today with Andrew! Loved the combination of two very different lands with Rotorua and Hobbiton, and Andrew’s overview of the history of New Zealand was interesting and informative. One of the best cruise shore excursions I’ve done.
Terrible experience. We had a Waitomo Caves and Hobbiton tour booked directly through them. We tried to confirm 24-48 hours beforehand. No response. They email us 11:30 pm the night before the cruise was supposed to dock cancelling the tour. No explanation. We emailed them back saying we were very upset and again no response. This was on our honeymoon. It really screwed up our plans. DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY.
The Hobbiton tour is the main reason that we flew across the world for our honeymoon. Called to confirm reservation multiple times with no response. Waited outside hotel for 30 minutes and then walked around town for an hour to find that the office did not exist. Please contact us.
This company appears to be out of business. No website, no working telephone number. Our Hobbiton tour was cancelled without reason late the night prior, after we had paid in full a month earlier.

Our tour guide, Andrew, arrived to pick us up the exact minute that had been arranged. He very entertainingly talked New Zealand history with us, among about a zillion other topics that he's well versed in, on our drive to the attractions and back again. The tour itself ran very smoothly despite unexpected road construction on our planned route. Tickets were taken care of and he managed to get us to the front of the line at Waitomo without having to wait. On top of the really fun, carefree, and informative tour, Andrew gave advice on our travel plans that was spot-on perfect. We followed that advice and had an incredible time. It was worth every penny and then some!
Natalie was animated, knowledgeable and friendly! This was the most comprehensive tour we experienced while in Australia and New Zealand. From the Tauranga city tour to the Maorii Village, with geothermal activity and the delicious hotel lunch to the Polynesian Spa, the day was filled with excitement and wonder! Don’t hesitate to book with this amazing family business!
Our guide was Andrew and he was amazing! He knew a lot of facts and trivia about New Zealand and Hobbiton and he made an interesting trip. Not only that, he was attentive and made sure everyone was having a lovely time. The Waitomo Caves were absolutely mesmerising and something we won’t see again in our lifetime. Hobbiton movie set was just like stepping into the movie and for a fan it was a dream come true.
