Really nice place to go shopping. It is big and has everything. I bought a ready to eat spinach bread. It is a part of a huge Remarkables market in Frankton.
A very convenient store with almost most frequently sought after products available. Perfect for a pit stop to buy groceries and essentials. Locals recommended this place for being slightly cheaper.
I had a disappointing experience the other day regarding a loaf of bread.nI had purchased a loaf of European Bakeries Sourdough with seeds or something like that. I was busy eating a slice on Monday evening when my partner pointed out to me that the whole loaf was moldy. I checked the expiry date and it was set to expire that day so very odd. My partner suggested I take it back which I did.nNow please let me be clear that European Bakery products are epic and I have had a great experience with them over the years. I , like most people, expect the occasional loaf to probably go off early and its not the end of the world. Just take it back and they replace it.nHowever I took it back to New World on the day after it expired. It was clearly moldy to a fairly extreme degree. I told them it had gone off. They said we can get you a refund or a replacement. I said a replacement would be fine.nI got to checkout, asked to replace it, and was then told that I would be unable to do so as it expired yesterday. This was a big turnaround when they had already agreed to swap the loaves.nI asked what had changed and was informed that they do not exchange food clearly past the expiry date.nFirstly I am not sure why they did not tell me that initially and lead me to believe that I would get a replacement loaf.nSecondly I showed her the loaf again, the extreme nature of the mold and asked her whether she felt like an entire loaf could go almost white overnight, after expiry. She reiterated that it is not company policy to accept anything back after the expiry date.nI was disappointed and upset. She then realised I was upset and then offered to change out the loaf anyway, which seemed very counter intuitive to me.nI made it clear how disappointed I was and then declined the offer saying that I did not want her to get in trouble for bending the rules to help me.nFundamentally New World is supposed to be a higher end super market at which I purchased a high end loaf of bread, a treat in this instance. The product was not sound and instead of looking after a regular customer I am a 5 minute drive away they chose to act in poor faith regarding a product that was very clearly experiencing an extreme level of degradation and was unsafe to consume.nGiven the cost of living crisis this just seems petty and does not reflect good community minded principles.nWhy could common decency not have been the method with which to evaluate the situation.nAlas this is a learning for me and others who walk away with moldy food from New World...return it before the used by date or you will otherwise be wasting your time like I did, and walk away with a sour taste in your mouth.
