Beautiful place at sunrise and sunset. Friendly people. Conveniently walking distance to amenities shops, supermarket, cafes, restaurants etc plus a library, a hot pool, kids playground. Plenty of car parks. There is a public toilet nearby. Find a spot to relax, go for a walk along the beach, stay in your car to read a book, self reflecting about life or even thinking of your next move. Highly recommended.
Good access to the ocean, but little to entertain in the area. In September the wind is a bit cold. Flat sand was seen as a good skim boarding spot. The Brighton pier in England was a hoot with the arcade even in early spring. This is a quiet spot, Sumner has more playgrounds and dining.
Lots of car parking space available. It is a beautiful site when the weather is good. There was a strong breeze when we visited but it was all good. There is a coffee shop where you can have coffee and watch the sea. You do not have to pay to visit here. People usually go fishing here but some areas were smelly.
New Brighton Pier, a marvel of human engineering that boldly thrusts itself into the churning embrace of the wild ocean. Picture it: a massive structure stretching into the sea, where land meets water in a dance as old as time.nnThe pier is not just a mere walkway—it's an awesome feature that offers a surreal experience. Standing out there, with the wind whipping around you and the waves crashing below, it's like being on the edge of the world. The sensation is both thrilling and oddly serene, as if you’ve found a quiet spot in the midst of nature’s chaos.nnAnd then there are the surfers. Watching them from the pier, carving through the waves with impressive skill, is like observing artists at work. Each ride is a masterpiece of balance and bravery, making you appreciate the sheer beauty and power of the ocean even more.nnBut watch out for the fisher people! They always seem to snag the best spots, setting up their gear like seasoned professionals guarding a treasured secret. It’s like they have an unspoken agreement with the sea to secure the prime real estate on the pier.nnSo, if you ever find yourself in New Brighton and crave an adventure that combines the majesty of the sea with the thrill of human daring, the pier is your place. It's like having a front-row seat to nature's most exhilarating show, where every wave tells a new story—just mind the fisher folk as you find your perfect viewing perch.
My first attraction site upon arriving in New Zealand with my love. The Pier is absolutely gorgeous!! There is a great little coffee shop with a variety of warm drinks to sit on the Pier and enjoy the view.
