The New Brighton Pier is such a beautiful place, seating all along the walk. Fishing area at the end of the walk as well as a part of it dedicated to no fishing. A gorgeous place to take photos, can access the pier from 3-4 different places. Overall just an amazing experience.
Great looking beach for a summer's day... Cool and fresh on 14 June 2025. Some fitness enthusiasts, fishermen, photographers and a few gulls adds life to the ever rolling ocean. Great views and great place for a casual stroll.
New Brighton Pier is an absolute gem and a must-visit spot in Christchurch! The views from the pier are stunning—especially at sunrise or sunset when the sky puts on a show. You can walk right out over the ocean and take in the fresh sea breeze, with waves crashing underneath you. There’s always a peaceful, relaxed vibe, whether you’re fishing, strolling, or just soaking in the atmosphere.nnThe beach is clean and wide, great for families, surfers, or anyone wanting a day out by the water. Plus, there are some great cafes and playgrounds nearby, making it a perfect destination for all ages. Every time I visit, I leave feeling refreshed and grounded. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area!
Great place for a mid week sunrise, surprised there was no fisherman with their ropes and lines everywhere today.nHope the person living under the pier next to the toilets by the basketball court finds somewhere nicer.nPier facts:nLength : 300 meters. Height : 7 meters above high tide. Width : 6 meters. Deck : 900mm thick pre stressed concrete. Piles : 17 piles, 1.4 meters in diameter, 20 meters apart.nThe original pier was wooden, opened on 18 January 1894 and was pulled down October 1965. Built in the same location as the old one, the new concrete pier opened in November 1997.nDamaged in the February 2011 earthquakes, repairs to the pier were completed in 2018, costing around $9 million.
Calm, peaceful, and perfect for relaxing. This place is family-friendly, with wide open areas for children to run, play, and join in on different activities.”
