We provide an affordable creative space and classes for those who are interested in learning all aspects of pottery and ceramics.
Located at 136 Rutherford Street in Nelson, this community heritage building offers space and equipment to inspire clay creations. Courses are offered over four terms throughout the year including workshops and a Twilight Pottery night for members. Have a go at the studio on a Thursday morning or jump in and become a member! All skill levels welcome :)
A little bit about our organisation:
An incorporated society since the 20th October, 1976, Nelson Community Potters acquired the studio the same year and continue the support the art of pottery in Nelson. Volunteers give approximately 1500 hours total of their time annually to continue keeping the building running and open to the wider community.
Many famous potters in the region have spent time and learnt a variety of skills at Nelson Community Potters including Katie Gold, Royce McGlashen, Steve Fulmer, David Griffith, Bruce and Ngarie Hands, Bruce Lissant-Clayton, and Peter Gibbs, among others. Many of the potters return to hold courses at NCP to encourage and support the next generation of potters.
