Napier Municipal Theatre are the leading theatre in Hawke’s Bay for performances, shows, concerts, functions and events.

Story

The Napier Municipal Theatre combines elegant art deco style with modern theatre facilities, making it one of the best provincial performing arts centre in New Zealand. A true Hawke’s Bay theatre, our stage has been graced with international acts and local performers alike.

The theatre has a seating capacity of 993. The stunning auditorium is available for hire for everything from stage productions to corporate launches.

The circular Pan Pac foyer offers another stunning environment in which to entertain, exhibit, conference or hold an unforgettable function. Seating 300 theatre-style or 80 banquet-style this attractive foyer is an ideal small entertainment venue complete with full bar service facilities.

The Pan Pac foyer is also home to our Box Office. Our friendly and helpful ticketing staff can assist you with up and coming event and concert bookings right here at the Napier Municipal Theatre and nationwide.

Except Public Holidays, we are open for Box Office sales:
• Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
• Saturday 9:00 am to 12:30 pm
• or prior to performances.

There are three reasons to go to a show at the Napier Municipal Theatre 1 - the show 2- the bar that they open just before the show and 3 - the 1930's architecture and interior decoration of the theatre itself. If you are a fan of the Art Deco decor style but can't stay long enough to attend a show ask the lovely people in the ticket booking office if you can go through and have a look they can only let you in the theatre area if there are no shows or rehearsals in progress
Attended Post Modern Jukebox & Sol3mo in past week. Amazing. Only downside was feeling like a sardine as not much room between seats
The Theatre was closed for the couple of days I was in Napier, and I resigned myself to not getting inside. A lone staff member took pity on the Ozzie trying to see through the dark entrance. A quick chat, and he gave me a tour of the amazing interior, even turning on the Light system. It's a truly amazing space, and combination of the Art Deco interior with world class lighting is truly amazing, and a credit to the City of Napier.

Food and drink was pricey. The place was a bit tired looking and could do with a lick of paint. Extremely long wait at canteens. Show was amazing, but lady complained that my 6 yr old shouldnt of got potatoe chips because the crinkly packet was too noisy. I told her to take the choice of products sold at the theater up with management. And tbh the only noise made was when he passed me the rubbish and i screwed it up to put in my bag. She was a bit mean
Such a great venue for dance recitals, ballet performances & classical music. The seats in the circle are not made for long legs though! The gorgeous architecture takes away the focus from that though...
Really awesome 1000-odd seat venue with stalls and circle seating. In the art deco style as so much of post-quake Napier buildings are, but thoroughly up-to-date features, including very effective air-conditioning.
Wish the dudes would tour again. Love the guys and the show. Sad to see them say farewell.
Went to watch Cinderella. 1 person helping in the booth. 100s of people in line to use bathroom at interval. Bar hardly moving. Cant believe the the low level of service at a sold out event.
Hansel and Gretel. Visited the ballet tonight. It was fantastic. I've seen a lot of ballets at the venue, but this was certainty the best for me. A must see.
