It’s very beautiful to see from outside. The Māori craving looks nice. Inside nothing interesting only very small cave goes no where. But still i enjoyed it. It was my Do list done.
Nice place to sit down and look at it. Nothing inside the cave . Muriwai Cave is one of the most sacred and historically significant in the Whakatāne region. It is one of the three landmarks Toroa was to look for by his father irakewa when the canoe arrived at Käkahoroa.
There is 2 car parks just next to the cave, but there's plenty of parking across the road at the reserve. Is a small historical cave. You can also see glow worms at night
Small historic room sized cave close to kids playground.According to the sign, the original cave extended over 100 metres. Nice to see some history close to the town, would look good if lit up at night.
One of three very important Maori landmarks in Whakatane. This cave has great significance for local Iwi but it's only in the last 20-30 years that this has been recognised prior to this there was no sign, carvings or parking, it was just a cave on the side of the road and intricate carvings commemorating its history. The cave itself is partially collapsed so isn't as big as it used to be totally safe though. The board with the history of the site is getting a bit faded/sunburned & could use replacing.
