Very beautiful bush walk with great views of Pelorus Sound, although parts of track are steep and muddy, and there are some weedy patches with gorse and barberry on the hillside.nSturdy shoes with good grip are a must.nThe council sign with walking time for the loop is misleading, as a full loop to the summit will take considerably longer, although there are shorter loops that can be completed easily in under an hour.
Someone has put a lot of effort into these tracks : My OS maps only shows one track from town but there's lots more heading up the hill from there. Went up to the waterfall, then cut across to the main path up to the summit, before heading back down the goat track. My partner was running it - pretty steep and tricky going toward the top so walked a bit but good underfoot most of the way. Enjoyed the descent!
Absolutely amazing hike with views down in to the sounds and over Havelock. Signs were easy to follow, track nice and clear, plenty of options depending on how steep you want your climb to be. A Havelock must do!
Beautiful paths. However, we thought that the entire circular route would take 1.5 hours. Rather, the journey over the easy route takes 1.5 hours. However, we walked over the waterfall route, which is beautiful but very challenging because you're more climbing over damp rocks than hiking. Still 100% recommended, but unlike us you should wear proper hiking shoes.
