Story

Mount John University Observatory er New Zealands primære astronomiske observatorium.

There is an $8 charge per vehicle to drive up the private road, but it's definitely worth it. The views from the top are incredible, and there's a great café where you can enjoy a coffee while soaking in the stunning scenery. It’s best to arrive early, as you may need to wait at the bottom if the top parking lot is full. Only one vehicle is allowed to go up at a time, after another has exited.
Beautiful view from the top. It's worth the $8 charge to drive up the private road. The road opens from 10am. If car park is full you will have to wait at the gates till one car leaves before you can go up.Visited onWeekendWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedNo
Outstanding views from this spectacular spot. Good food available. Excellent parking facilities. Would love to have been able to visit at night to see the amazing starscape. Well worth the minimal road charge.Visited onWeekday
Despite the cloudy weather, the view was still stunning, a lovely café nearby, a pleasant experience.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo wait
A very beautiful and breathtaking place but no drone is allowed. So meh...anyway many places are not allowed drones in New Zealand. This is the only thing I dislike about this country.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
You can either walk from Lake Tekapo or take your car and pay a $8 per vehicle toll. Either way you will get a breathtaking view of Lake Tekapo and Lake Alexandrina and the non-describing blue water of both the lakes. Got a little café on top also which has some good food, smoothies and picnic benches.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure

Beautiful view and okay little cafe, but no information /visitor center related to all the telescopes. It seems they would have something up there.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo

A nice hike in Lake Tekapo area. Fun to have a cafe and observatory at the top. Not really scenic until you near the top, and not much variety of terrainWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
