tbh the school is not that good at all and thats putting it lightly. the school uniform policy is outdated and not that good quality pants feel like plastic and the tops are not that breathable. the punishment at this school is awful it is over the top completly, people have reported bad punishment from the deputy principal's of the school, one of them even being called extremly rude by multipul parents he cannot do his job right. some of the teachers are good but if im honest a lot of them dont know what they are doing or just too lazy to do their job some of them are also straight up disrespectful to students some even with racial slurs. I think this school should be changed to a different system it is outdated and some people need to leave since they are quite offensive
Not an amazing school, the principal's pet velociraptor is a jarring sight. But in all reality, if you want a good education feel free to come here but the actual practice of educating the students is stress inducing and unnecessarily painful. The teachers only mildly care about the student's understanding of the topic/subject and the majority of them just can't control their classes then again there are a few okay teachers. On that point, the bullying is insane, if you come to this school being even slightly alternative you will not have a good time at all. In my own opinion as a gnc individual at school, my experience in my first year at this school was admittedly not amazing, although I did have a lot of support from my peers and various teachers/staff. This year has been a lot better for me, I think this is because I have not had as much exposure to the students that showed negativity toward me last year and that I have found more subjects and groups that interest me. I think that if you are already a student at MAGS or want to come to MAGS in the future and think that you may have any social struggles at all I highly recommend and implore that you join a group or subjects that matches your interests, for example, I am very interested in drama and have joined Theatresports which I highly recommend people to at least check out, even if you don't like drama, the groups and clubs are very good for meeting people that share the same interests as you. If you are struggling at MAGS at all, I highly implore that you talk to a member of staff or someone such as your form teacher, counselling is very easy to access in this school as well if you don't know how to or don't want to talk to a trusted teacher. It is very easy to spot out and focus on the negatives at MAGS, but you can do that with any school, ever. MAGS, albeit it has lots of flaws, the teachers genuinely do care about their students, even if it is just at a base layer and if you can find the right people that care about you as a person, stick to them. Because in the end, this school can really suck but it definitely can be very fun and enjoyable with the right groups.
I’m finishing up Year 13 at MAGS, for the most part it’s a pretty tough school for a lot of students. At least most teachers do know what they’re doing and there’s lots of clubs and things to do, but MAGS has many issues. Some rules haven’t changed for years and there is a bit of an obsession with tradition. UNIFORMS: The school is very strict on uniform standards. Boys must always have their socks up high, shirts tucked in and no earrings. Girls can’t have their skirts too high and earrings be too dramatic. If you make even a single mistake you will get a detention. LATENESS: It used to be if you’re late to school 3 times a term you get an after school detention, now it’s if you’re late you get a lunch time detention, depending on your teacher. This puts more people in DT for reasons they couldn’t control. ASSEMBLY: If you talk or whisper in assemblies, you will be made to stand up at your seat for the rest of the period. But if teachers can’t pinpoint who did they'll give a warning in the general area. They’d also extend the assemblies to interval if a lot of people were talking. EXPECTATIONS: Lots of teachers expect too much from students which puts in a lot of stress and it becomes mentally draining. The one answer for mental health is go see the school counselor. The school needs to get more counselors. People need it here and it’s not good enough. DEVICES: We used to be allowed on our phones during lunch breaks and sometimes class. But now they are banned. If you’re having troubles during break, you can’t even call a trusted person or friend to meet up with you. Having no phones at school is unreasonable and unrealistic. Students will use them one way or another. The school just keeps finding ways to punish people. We are allowed laptops in classes so students can use them for study.
Hey minions, gossip girl here and I have to tell you the biggest news. Spotted in Mags, a pet Velociraptor, missing its muzzle. Bald and a fatty Quit telling me off for my hair, think I’ll tie it up? I don't think so. You know you love me, xoxo -Gossip Girl
Good school, the velociraptor is friendly, for the most part. Still going strong with 6 fingers before the end of the first year.
I walked past Mr Drumms office and the pet velciraptor pulled my hair. I bet she was just jealous of me. Like she cant grow a single hair and she was just mad she aint me. Shes so two faced istg last week she was talking abt how shes a girls girl and that jealousys bad. She a hater
It's a decent school with some great teachers and friendly students, but the principal's pet velociraptor needs be leashed properly.
Some punishments I received have been ridiculously harsh. If you talk in assembly, a staff will humiliate you in front of everyone in your year group by making you stand up and you will have to stay standing for the entire assembly. The assemblies are always boring and have lengthy lectures so students will get restless and choose to talk because they feel like it or think no one would notice, plus when they talk, most of the time they’re not actually being rude or disruptive to the other students, it is always a brief whisper. Like what if they were trying to help the other person understand what the speaker was saying or perhaps they were just talking about what the current speaker was talking about. The school needs to stop using this old fashioned punishment as it is very backwards. The teachers/senior managers/deans should instead speak to the offending students privately after the assembly and give them a detention if necessary. To punish a student by forcing them to stand up is inappropriate and will severely embarrass them. In our school, it doesn’t matter whether it’s the most problematic students, it was generally anyone who was talking, whispering or not following the rules. It went for every student. If you were lucky you might get a warning or signal from a teacher not to talk again or else they’ll make you stand up. But not everyone was so lucky to get a warning instead. Spending most of the assembly standing up when everyone else is sitting down you will feel self-conscious and embarrassed.
i get why the school motto is through hardship to glory since the hardship was going to mags and the glory was leaving to pursue a career in barbering. i apply this motto on a daily basis when i struggle with barbering
Have history with this school and although I wasn’t the best student this school definitely rubbed off on me. Wrote this up to let the teacher or whoever made the vault for the photos how much I appreciated the throwbacks! It’s so awesome looking back and seeing some of my family back in the day, much appreciated!
