I have always enjoyed supporting local business and I will continue to support this one but my experience was ruined by the rudeness of the staff member who served us. She could not even 'crack' a smile or even hardly engage with us. Maybe some customer service training is required! However, great sound system and quality screening, just marred by the rude service.
This place is a seriously great cinematic experience, you won’t regret going to Monterey. The prices are affordable, the seats are comfortable, the bathrooms are clean. What more could you ask for? Although it is rustic and some may say worn down I see it as a lived in, cozy environment that never gets old! Don’t waste money on event, come and have the Monterey experience!
I absolutely love this place with my whole heart. The atmosphere is superb, zen cafe is absolutely delicious, price are perfect and affordable they even do deals on Mondays and Tuesdays all tickets $10, the idea of conjoined seats is genius, I’ve never had a problem with any staff members, they give away free posters, toilets are poo-able and spotless! The place is all round amazing and although there’s sometimes mysterious brown skids on the seats and a few beer bottles not to mention the missing ceiling it all adds to the character and charm the building has. It’s seriously an incredible palace especially for kids and teens because it has this magical nostalgia feel! I’d die if it ever shut down. I love you mother ship Monterey
I was sitting in the cinema and a woman who worked there proceeded to yell at me for bringing in food from outside and told me to bring my bag to the manager. I was not aware there was a rule to do with food because in Lower Hutt the EVENT cinema allows it. The woman then proceeded to sit in the seats that my party had booked for other friends that were going to be late, and bought out her drink that was not from the cinema either. She was also sitting next to a man who had outside food and drink but said nothing to him or the other 27 people that I counted that also had food not from the cinema. I would’ve appreciated being told before I was yelled at, and I'm confused on why I was the only one targeted when quite literally everyone else was doing it. I obviously threw my food away, but I felt uncomfortable the rest of the movie. Please treat people with kindness because I was never intentionally breaking rules, and you never know what people are going through, and as I am quite noticeably autistic, don’t talk to me like I am subhuman : but the movie was great, I love having a local cinema
I had an awful encounter with a staff member here recently.nnAll I did was simply ask when the lights are expected to come on after the movie had ended. This particular staff member elderly female possibly one of the new owners? was so rude and aggresively defsensive towards me when I asked this. The reason I asked was because my family and I had to guide my Nana out of the cinema after the movie, in the dark while the credits were rolling.nnThis staff member not only was really rude, she ruined our entire experience. Will not be returning here sadly after years of being a regular customer.
