Best tour I have been to. We saw 5 wild yellow eyed penguins and a whole bunch of other wildlifes. It's so amazing to see yellow eyed that close! I highly recommend this tour to everyone.
Even in the rain, it was an absolute treat. The boat was comfy, had the option of sitting inside or outside. Both offering great views. We opted to be outside and were given rain jackets to help keep us dry. Managed to see 3 species of albatross, fur seals and their pups, blue penquins and lots of other bird life.
We loved the Monarch Wildlife Cruise!! Several albatross were out flying and came very near and over the top of the boat giving us a great experience. Add the fur seals and the other birds we saw it was fantastic. The staff were really lovely and the boat well appointed. Would definitely recommend!!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
We booked the Monarch as a group for a reunion and it was the highlight of the weekend - fabulous commentary and hosting, great wildlife sightings and explanations, exceptional manaakitanga. Thoroughly recommend the Wildlife Cruise... we'd spent the previous Reunion events reconnecting with our shared past, and this cruise , on the final morning, springboard us into new shared memories, and heading away with our emotional tanks filled.
Great day! We arrived by cruise ship and were met at the port. We had a lovely driver/guide who took us through town and then out to Larnach Castle. Very good guide though the castle with about half hour spare to grab a bite to eat and walk through the gardens. Short drive then to the Mocarch boat for the wildlife portion. Lots of staff onboard helping to point out the different seals, penguins and birds along the way. The highlight being the albatross at the end. We had great weather which made for a lovely day but didn’t get to see the albatross fly as no wind. So if you get windy weather you will actually be in luck.
An absolute epic outing on the Monarch boat! We started the experience in the bus to take us to the boat. Lots of interesting information from a very knowledgeable driver then we got on the boat where we were provided binoculars and warm waterproof jackets for the trip. We came a across Shags, all sorts of seagulls,a few albatross, one little blue pinguin, some fur seals and cherry on top when we were at sea we witnessed a beautiful humpback whale with her little one and a group of dolphins. What a day to be on the water. Thanks to the crew for looking after us so well and for giving us valuable information and making it such a great experience. Highly recommended!!!
Wildlife trip on boat cancelled due to high wind but substituted a tour of the Otago Peninsula and Albatross colony. Really good driver , very very informative. Rob?.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Had a fabulous cruise with Monarch Wildlife cruises today. Buddy & Oscar were so informative with all the birdlife - seeing 4 different Albatros, penguins & seal. It was a such a special time which we thoroughly enjoyed after first being to Lanarch Castle with our tour guide Tim who gave us all the history on Lanarch Castle. He had a great sense of humor making it a very pleasant outing. Thank you Monarch - highly recommend this combined Lanarch Castle and Wildlife Cruise.
Fun time on the water! Crew were professional and knowledgeable. We saw orca, sea lions, albatross up close and little blue penguins.Wait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
This is definitely a must do activity if you are in Dunedin. The boat driver is an excellent source of knowledge about Dunedin and the wild life. The boat is super comfortable and Aaron makes a great cup of tea. The wildlife is abundant and the scenery incredible.
