Mindfulness is a way of bringing a kind, curious and open-hearted attention to our experiences. It incorporates a range of practices including meditation and yoga.

Jon Kabat-Zinn defines mindfulness as an ability to "pay attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgementally".

The Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) 8 week programme was established by Kabat-Zinn at the Massachusetts Medical Centre for people suffering from stress and chronic pain. It has now been adapted for a variety of situations.

Katie O'Connor has been running mindfulness-based courses in the Gore area for the past two years.
