A Georgian styled home is the centrepiece of this large rural garden featuring formal and informal planting, native walkways & waterways.
A Georgian styled home is the centrepiece of this large rural garden set amongst the remnants of an old orchard. Behind the house is the formal area with twin herbaceous borders flanking a lawn backed by hedges of Ilex cornuta "Burfordii". To one side a cottage garden and whimsical garden shed lead to "kissing gates" which are romantically placed under trailing weeping willows. Beyond these are a further four hectares of native walkways, expansive grassed areas, spring plantings of cherries, rhododendrons, camellias and acers, together with a traditional walled kitchen garden, complete with gardener's cottge and Victorian inspired glasshouses. A backdrop of typically Northland podocarp forest adds a different dimension to Mincher. Water is a feature throughout with platforms dotted along the northern boundary to allow viewing of the stream and bush beyond. Lunches and morning/afternoon teas are available by prior arrangement for groups of ten or more people. Allow 1 - 1.5 hrs to view garden. Admission charged. Toilet for disabled visitors.
