Went here yesterday and got crumbed mussels and fries. So looking forward to it as I’ve been wanting mussels for a while now. I chose the six crumbed mussels and shoestring fries. They came out looking good with some salad and I chowed down. Well, I was disappointed. It was soooooooo salty I couldn’t finish them. Gave one to my husband and he is the salt KING and loves it on most things but even he couldn’t finish one mussel. The fries were loaded with salt too, literally loaded. The aioli and tartare sauce were delicious but we couldn’t stomach the remaining mussels or fries. Could’ve ordered something else but didn’t want to risk the same thing happening. I’m saying that, the girl behind the counter was lovely and friendly and welcoming! A nice wee spot next to the marina!
On my land trip route, I encounter Havelock and saw the sign that Havelock is a Greenshell Mussel Capital of The World, so me and My Husband decide to try Mussel in Havelock and Mills Bay Mussels came out in our google maps. We order the most ordered menu which is garlic butter mussel and it was really really good food in here is amazing, we also order the fish and chips, the salad, fish and fries all amazing, my mouth pallet and tummy is dancing enjoying the great food in here hahaha
On our way to Nelson I talked my husband in to stopping in Havelock to have some mussels since it's The Greenshell Mussel Capital of the World. We weren't disappointed. We stopped at Mills Bay Mussels and had a feed of crumbed, garlic mussels and a mussel, smoked fish and kumera pie. It was so delicious! Wonderful friendly staff too. A few days later we stopped in again on our way back for some more delicious mussels. Yum!!!
Delicious chowder that really hit the spot. Such a nice location while you chow down on fresh and delicious food. Loved the bread that accompanied the chowder too, perfect crust to carry the yum creamy chowder.
Delicious!nnWe had a half dozen of the garlic butter and crumbed mussels with some bread and light salad and it was the perfect amount of food for two people.nnIt tasted so fresh and just right on a warm sunny day.nnOur favourites were the garlic butter mussels and the light salad. The salad is really good and worth a try!
