Methven has a permanent population of around 1,700 and is located near the foothills of the Southern Alps, one hour’s drive south-west of Christchurch.

A lot of people visit Methven to explore our amazing back yard which provides an exciting array of summer and winter outdoor activities including skiing, mountain biking & cycling, walking & hiking, fishing, jet boating, clay bird shooting, hot air ballooning, horse riding, hunting, golf, 4WD high country adventures, and helicopter scenic flights.

A wide variety Methven Mt Hutt events are held throughout the year – ski area events, sporting events (including MTB, cycling, running & walking events), live music & gigs, markets, community festivals, weddings, and conferences.

Traditionally a sheep and grain growing area, irrigation has changed the way we use our land. Dairy farming and specialised crops are now also an important part of our agricultural industry.
