Hello! I'm so excited to be releasing a beautiful range of 100% New Zealand grown, milled and manufactured finest merino clothing made specifically for premature babies, with full term sizes also available.
Hi guys! I'm so excited to be releasing a beautiful range of N.Z. grown, milled and manufactured finest merino clothing made for pre-term and newborn babies. But first a little about myself - and how I came to be so interested in merino garments...
My father was born in 1914, weeks before his expected full-term time. When he was born the doctor examined him and muttered, "Oh well, he's a gonner" and cast him to one side. Fortunately he was being assisted by an elderly midwife, who had learned a few "tricks of the trade"; she picked up his barely-breathing body and said, "Where there is life there is hope". She wrapped him in cotton wool and fed him with whisky through an eyedropper - and Dad rallied - living for another 82 years! The odd thing is, he was a teetotaller all of his life, always avoided alcohol, couldn't understand why people liked it so much, and couldn't undrstand the amusement that people saw in that irony!
My brother and I grew up in a happy secure home with plenty of books and hobbies. We were never bored, always having things to do. We had a family friend who was a dressmaker and she would sometimes drop off a bag of dressmaking scraps for me and that is when I developed a passion for textiles that has never left me. I used to lay in bed with my bag of scraps and wonder who was the glamorous lady wearing such beautiful brocades and silks, when Mum wore cotton frocks and knitted cardies. I really loved the pure silks as they were as fine as a butterfly's wing, but very strong as well. I used to wonder, "How could that be?"
I have worked in the sewing trade for the last 40 years, and now operate my own contract sewing business. When my little grandbabies arrived, of course I made them some singlets and tee shirts out of the best fabric I could find. I didn't need to look far as I had been manufacturing merino garments for the previous ten years. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that our merino wool is in such great demand for babies because of its ability to keep baby warm when it is chilled and release moisture when baby's temperature rises. New Zealand merino sheep live in very extreme temperature variations, and their particular fleece fibre structure is nature's way of protecting them. It truly is nature's miracle fibre.
I love to see a little baby dressed and wrapped in New Zealand grown, milled and manufactured merino wool, of a cloth carefully selected to have no harmful chemicals, dyes or bleaches in its manufacture. I feel as if I'm paying back my debt to that caring midwife, who took the time to make my Dad's life possible - and, of course, my own life too, as a result!
