My husband and I have waited for more than one month for just getting ourselves registered. After registration, the medical cost for our first medical consultations is NZD180 and NZD90 respectively.nnOn 16/6/2024, my husband called up the Mercury Bay Medical Centre for an appointment. The lady at the medical centre replied that she could arrange a call up service to one of the local doctors here at Whitianga but before connecting him to the doctor, she said that she had to get our credit card payment of NZD90 first. My husband decided not to go ahead with this call-in medical service.nnFrom there onwards, we both decided not to use their rip-off medical services there. Is it only because there’s NO other medical service at Whitianga that Mercury Bay Medical Centre becomes a monopoly in the medical services? Is it because of this monopolised medical centre, staff working there can put money first before someone else’s life?nnAfter reading so many terrible and horrible reviews at Google, we do NOT recommend you to get any medical treatment there unless you want to pay extremely unbelievably high medical bills and be treated arrogantly and inhumane way!
Thank you, Doctor Dan and Marcia, for your attentive and professional bedside manner. I have nothing but good things to say about my experience at Mercury Bay Medical Centre. I arrived 1st thing in the AM l, and it was a busy Friday with walk-ins and appointments. I'm not a local, but I was treated with respect and professionalism as is experienced by the locals here in Whitianga. I was diagnosed and treated that day, and now I'm on the road to recovery from an infection I was suffering from. Thank you, Mercury Bay Medical Centre, from the bottom of my heart.
Took 4yr old son, very sick, at 10:30 am, very rude lady had an attitude when she told me they were full capacity and wouldn’t put our name on until 12 noon and to come back then. Came back at 11:45 and was told that they were full capacity and to come back at 1pm. Very rude receptionist! Sighed and rolled eyes a lot. I refused to leave as my boy needed to be seen, so she put my name on the list to be seen. Told me I would have to wait atleast 3 hours. That was strange as there was not very many people waiting and I was seen within the hour. This is not the first time I’ve had negative experiences at this clinic, was hoping things would be better since the new location, but they are not. Drs are really good but receptionists are just as horrible as they have always been.
PLEASE hire new receptionists !nnFirstly, thank you for the lovely doctor with the North American accent who spent time to diagnose my daughter and did a fabulous job !nThank you to the lovely nurse who helped on arrival !nnOn 21 January 2022 on arrival with a child who was visibly in pain and could barely walk. The first thing the receptionist did made us pay $125 and in the process overcharged us by $45.nNo apologies, later or the entire time we were there.nRefund was given 3.5 hours later when we left, with the usual death stare included.nnWe waited three hours before they called us in.nThere was a couple in the waiting room who also was visibly upset about the time he had to waithe was there since 10AM and complained around 2.30PM.nAfter 2.5 hours waiting, when I spoke to the receptionist that my child is in pain, it can be potentially a serious medical issue. She advised that I can drive to Thames if I no longer want to wait.nI was not yelling but obviously when you have a sick child, waited 2.5 hours and the two receptionists could not care less, you would start to get irritated.nnAbsolutely disappointing, if we had a choice we would have gone to anywhere else.
Absolutely shocking service and info from whoever I spoke to today about getting a COVID test. Very rude, didn't explain anything and just wanted to get off the phone. Ended up speaking to Te Korowai Hauora and the lady was very helpful and explained that we need to speak to a nurse triage service. From what I can see in the reviews of this centre there's great doctors and nurses who's efforts are thwarted by the front desk.
