Story

The ball started rolling after purchasing a real fruit ice cream machine off Trademe. We were in the car park outside the Kumeu shops...during a lunch break and the auction was closing. We had thrown the idea around a bit, so saw this as a sign. It wasn't a bid war, but we felt like we'd landed a bargain and a new door was open. Later we bought our 1975 horse float from farmers in Te Awamutu which we completely over hauled, stripping it down to bare metal and widening it by another half meter. The rest of the build was worked on over the following months right up to the wee hours on Christmas eve..... it was hard going but we met our opening target of selling to campers before the New Year ticked over. Now we have had two seasons in Whananaki opposite the Otamure D.O.C campground and some of the kids talk about us as if we have always been there. It must be one of the sweetest jobs in the world, selling ice cream and (amazing) coffee to relaxed holiday makers under pohutakawa trees across the road from the beach. Without doubt we put down the great taste of our icecreams to the organic and spray free quality of the fruit. Omaha Organic Berries carried us through our first season, along with a friends (Bethells Beach grown) black doris plums. Now we have the time and foresight to harvest fruit as it ripens and this is an ongoing part of our business. Whananaki is on the Tutakaka Coastline 40min north of Whangarei, a beautiful part of the world. If you haven't yet explored it please do. We are parked up there for most of January and into February. Presently we have a Monday - Friday spot in West Auckland. We feel so lucky to be nestled up outside the iconic Yozin's building at 686 Swanson Rd.
